4. The Chair asked Secretary Christlieb for his report. The Secretary brought up two items: first that that members need to be appointed to the Nominating Committee and he made mention that, Dick Widera and Ruben Rocha, have information concerning the Grounding Seminar in February. Joe Serden with U.L. brought in some books and other material for reading.

2ND Vice President Zanicchi initiated a call for volunteers for the Nominating Committee.

The following members were selected: Dick Widera, Joe Bolesina, and Bob Moore.

5.OLD BUSINESS: The Chair asked Ruben to discuss the seminar. A fee price was determined to be $110.00 for a minimum of 60 people to attend. This is a break-even price and will cover the expenses. This includes the book, lunch and continuing education certificate.
Discussion commenced on improving attendance. Some problems were discussed. For example, many contractors already had enough hours last August and this was one contributing reason for the low turn out.
Discussion about the computerized filing and Ruben conveyed that in October, sponsors were to be notified of the procedure. It will be 100 % auditing because the course sponsor will file the attendance roster with Tallahassee.

Dick Widera commented on James Stallcup’s new grounding book, which he is currently proof reading. Widera would like to have the seminar directed towards the more sophisticate side of grounding. Comments were made on both side for basics and for more advanced techniques. .

Discussion on having more exposure and some of the ways that the membership can assist
with informing contractors and electricians in the field.
Discussion about the lunch conveyed that it is advantageous to provide lunch so as to reduce the possibility of loosing time from the seminar.

Ruben mentioned a conversation between himself and Secretary Christlieb about having sponsors for the coffee breaks. This could help reduce some of the costs. Most of the membership agrees that sponsors would be a great idea.

The Division members present made many valid comments and excellent points.

A motion to accept the fee, based upon the discussion that ensued, should be set at $110.00 by Mel Hill. Ralph Philbrook voiced a second. With no further discussion, the motion was accepted.

Further discussion commenced on sponsors and fees Ruben commented that you cannot interfere with the 50-minute requirement per statutes and have a sponsor speak during the course of the seminar. Talking should be reserved for lunch ,coffee breaks and after the seminar.

Ralph Philbrook made a motion to set the fee for vendor tables at $100.00. Bob Moore voiced a second. All were in favor.

6.NEW BUSINESS: The website address referred on the monthly flyer was not correct. Secretary Christlieb will make the necessary changes. The correct web address is :
www.iaeifl.org.
Mike Jacobs made comments of seminars that were conducted in West Palm Beach. He suggested direct mailing. Secretary Christlieb apprised the membership that the monthly flyer has a listing of continuing education seminars . Ruben has posted the registration form to the website. Discussion on website activity took place.

The Chair commeneced discussion on 410-4(d) concerning ceiling fans in bathrooms. A question concerning “…….any part of’ was made. Discussion concluded that no part of the fan can be in the 3’ and 8’ zone over a bathtub. The blade cannot cross into that area as well. Discussion about potential liability took place. Also, the potential that condensate on a fan blade could make it a current carrying conductor. Mac McDonald made some points that the Code is not clear about other fixtures in this zone. The consensus is keep the fan 3 feet away.
Bill also asked if a yellow wire nut is acceptable for making a grounding joint in place of a green wire nut. The consensus is yes. One comment was that an installer cannot cut a wire nut top off and use it for grounding.

The new ROP was mentioned which is now on disc.

Bob Moore was asked about TECO enforcing the GFI on 120 and1240 volt receptacles. He comments it is being enforced. The Code says it has to be GFI protected. Currently, City of Tampa is not inspecting a saw pole, since it is under a 100 amps. Charlie Spitzer made a suggestion concerning what he does with temporary power poles. He noted that a direct-wired piece of equipment requires no GFI protection.

Dick Widera informed the Division of the January 13 ,2001 Board of Directors meeting to be held in Naples.

7. At 3:18pm , a motion was made to adjourn by John Sheesley and a second promptly voice by Dick Widera. All agreed and the General meeting was adjourned.
