Forgive me, I didn't mean to change the topic of discussion. Permit me to go back to the fiberglass pool bonding if I may...

I am still having trouble with this article because the more I read it, it seems like the alternate method as described is nothing more than a permissive rule [90.5], which leads me to believe that we can't require it. Correct?

"Shall be permitted"

You are correct in part. The requirement is found in the first sustenance of 680.26(c). The word "shall" is used to require the connection of an equipotential bonding grid. This is accomplished by the three types; (last sentence)and "shall be permitted to be one of the following;"
1. Structural Reinforcing Steel
2. Bolted of Welded Metal Pool
3. Alternate Means.

So it just depends on the type pool construction and deck as to what method of equipotental bonding grid is used.

But one of those methods must be used

Isn't bonding a fiberglass pool like bonding a plastic water pipe?

This was being tossed around the contractor BB the other day and I came up with 2 companies that have U/L listed copper grid.
Harger Lightning Protection has 3' wide 50' long 12 over #8 copper welded at the joints. Sounds like our stuff. ???
Erico also has the grid but I am not sure it comes 3', only saw 4'.

BTW I assume you all saw the TIA saying we don't need the grid under a fiberglass pool

Yup. But Mike is saying that we must require it. I am really stuck on this one and I need to research it more.....when I get more time.....which seems to be never.

Thanks for the tips on the companies, I will try to look them up on the web.
