IAEI Minutes
September 6, 2000
The meeting was called to order by Ed Huntsberger on September 6, 2000 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:02 p.m.
Present at the meeting were: Don Brindley, Philip Sapienza, Taylor Sams, Jeff Filion, Steve Bivens, Ed Huntsberger, Dwight Wilkes, Stan DeAngelis, Lea Wadeson, John Martin, Carl Beaton, J.C. Patrick, Jimmy Douglas, John Griffin, Dallas Stratton and Dan Carter.
The minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: Don Brindley stated that the Florida Building Code was accepted and the only electrical reference is the National Electrical Code. All add on proposals were thrown out. This will take effect on July 1, 2001, however, this date has not been put out in writing. John Griffin introduced the discussion about local code vs. the move to international code.
New Business: Don Brindley introduced the discussion on 1 and 2 home residential inspector certification and the courses that might certify that inspector to do it.
Dan Carter introduced the discussion on changing the course that just has technical in it to include the other hours that include worker’s comp, OSHA safety and business and any others that might be added by the State. This would allow the Electrical Contractor who takes our 14 hr CEU class to get their full requirements at one seminar. Dan said this was the only way to be in competition with other teaching institutions that already do this. Dwight Wilkes made the motion and the vote was unanimous to give Don Brindley whatever money he needed to get this approved with the necessary institutions. Don Brindley agreed to do this for the North Florida Division. Don this Division appreciates your hard work and devotion to the advancement of education within our Division.
Dallas Stratton requested that the Division support the State Officers and directors financially to attend the meeting in Orlando in September. The vote was unanimous and the President directed Dallas to repay Don Brindley, Dallas Stratton and John Martin for their expenses.
Don Brindley led a discussion on the 4hr walls and if it constitutes 1 building or more than 1.
Dwight Wilkes led a discussion on appliance garages, custom built kiosks and how they affect counter space and receptacle layout.
A general discussion on breaker replacement led to information that the breaker companies say the wrong breaker voids warranty, however, the testing labs say it works and they will back it up. What are we to do?
Jimmy Douglas led a discussion on several handouts and introducing if schedule 80 could be based on the ground under trailers if fastened in place. The general consensus was that you could.
Dan Carter reported on the web site the State Chapter has provided and our Division is helping pay for. Dan reported that last month we loaded our minutes on the web site under the North Florida Division. Each month you can check it out online and any other Division as well.
