IAEI Minutes
October 4, 2000
The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Douglas on October 4, 2000 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 p.m.
Present at the meeting were: Dallas Stratton, John Griffin, Jimmy Douglas, J.C. Patrick, Tom Peters, Dan Standish, Leo Wadeson, Randow Hays, Jim Williams, Carl Beaton, John Martin, Dwight Wilkes, Joff Filion, Phil Dunnington, Wayne Zeigler, Taylor Sams and Dan Carter.
The minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported we are solvent and all bills are paid.
Old Business: Dan Carter reported that the kitchen appliance garages discussed last month do not count as counter space to determine the amount of counter plugs.
New Business: Dallas Stratton and John Martin gave a lengthy discussion on the State Chapter Directors Meeting held in Orlando.
The transition from one Secretary-Treasurer job to separate jobs as a Secretary and a Treasurer is going smoothly.
They are considering one site for the State meetings but it was tabled at this time.
The Board voted to join
Building Officials Association of Florida, Plumbing and Gas to form the, “Building Safety Coalition”, which will make for a larger voice to deal with safety issues. There will be 2 members from each group and only unanimously voted on issues will be pursued since all groups do not agree all the time.
J.C. Patrick made a motion to pay expenses for the State Officers and Directors to attend the State Directors meeting in Naples, Florida on January 13, 2001. The vote was unanimous. They are Don Brindley, Dallas Stratton and John Martin. Make yourself a note and prepare to attend the State Seminar to be held in Naples, Florida in May 2001.
John Griffin, Dwight Wilkes, John Martin, Tom Peters, J.C. Patrick and others discussed the ever confusing issue of heat and A/C disconnects regarding locations, working conditions, work area, safety, locking devices, internal disconnects and who determines what is to be done. The general conclusion, if there was one, was that the locking device would give the greater safety to the person working on the unit.
Ernie Winfree and Ed Huntsberger have invited Gus Swinehart; Regional Mgr. Of the S.E. for Strongwell, to talk at the November meeting about underground, handholes and splice boxes that are U.L. listed to insure that the underground enclosures are safe and risk free.
Jimmy Douglas pulled Taylor Sams name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky for Taylor.
The next meeting will be at the Holiday Inn in Palatka on November 1, 2000 at 12:00 noon.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel L. Carter
Secretary
Phil Sapienza, the Chief Electrical Inspection of the City of Ocala, passed away the first week of October, in Ocala while he was at home. Phil was one of the founding fathers of the North Florida Division of the Florida Chapter of the IAEI. Phil was a friend to all of us and he will be greatly missed. Phil was the President of our Division 2 years ago and I became close to him since I was secretary. I am asking all who read this to say a prayer for his family, loved ones and the electrical industry all have suffered a great loss.
