The meeting was called to order by Ed Huntsberger on November 1, 2000 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.

Patrick, Jimmy Douglas, John Griffin, Dallas Stratton and Dan Carter.
John Griffin gave the invocation.
The minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported we are solvent and all bills are paid.
Old Business: Don Brindley reported that the North Florida Division received a plaque for the largest increase in membership at the Southern Section meeting near Atlanta. Don Brindley also got a plaque as the person who sponsored the most new memberships. Thanks Don for all the things you do for our Division.
Don reported he is working on the new seminar our Division asked him to create. The one course will have everything required for the inspector and associate member with regards to their CEU’s.
Don also announced that the 1st draft of proposals to change the National Electric Code is out.
New Business: John Griffin brought in a UL label and had J.C. Patrick introduce the discussion on labeling. J.C. says some inspectors are passing control equipment inside UL approved “enclosures” at industrial applications. J.C. says there should be 2 labels; one for the enclosure and one for the equipment. Each one does not cover the other one. John Griffin questioned that if all the equipment was UL approved when installed would it be approved. Dan Standish (UL) and J.C. Patrick (ETL) said no it must be approved as a unit not individually. Carl Beaton pointed out that in Article 90 the inspector can ask a third party for product approval. Dwight Wilkes wanted to know if this also applies to the sign label; does it include the control box? Dan Standish says it does.
Ernie Winfree introduced Gus Swinehart, Regional Manager of the Southeast for Strongwell. Gus presented a great amount of information about underground handholes and splice boxes that are UL listed to insure that the underground enclosures are safe and risk free. Thank you for the presentation.
John Griffin presented a question to be discussed at the December meeting. “Does the plug in the kitchen garage have to be protected by a GFI?
Taylor Sams presented a question to be discussed at the December meeting. “How will the Florida Building Code address the issue of having a remote control device to open the service disconnect means where the service disconnect means is not located on the outside of the building and thus is not accessible to fire department personnel in the event of a fire?
Dwight Wilkes said a new fire code was due out July 1st. Maybe this will answer some questions. Dwight Wilkes passed out information on the stand-by generators he had gotten from Joe Sheene at the Southern Section meeting. Gus Swinehart drew Stan Deangelis’ name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky Stan.
The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka on December 6, 2000 at 12:00 noon.
Please Note: Ed Huntsberger said we will stick with tradition and the North Florida Division will pay for lunch for all those who attend the December 6th meeting. Please come and enjoy a free lunch and see what the meetings are like.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel L. Carter
