IAEI Minutes
July 12, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Douglas on July 12, 2001 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.
Present at the meeting were: Ernie Winfree, Phil Dunnington, Jim Lindahl, John T. Martin, Cliff Wilson, Dallas Stratton, John Griffin, Bill Thompson, J.C. Patrick, Jimmy Douglas, Carl Beaton, Dwight Wilkes, Stan DeAngelis, Howard White, Joff Filion, Ed Huntsberger, Taylor Sams, Sam Gerace, Don Brindley and Dan Carter.
John Griffin gave the invocation.
The minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: Jimmy Douglas, Dwight Wilkes and Joff Filion reported on the Officers Installation Dinner. Everyone who attended had a good time. Dwight Wilkes and Joff Filion and their wives are to be recognized for their efforts to make it a success. Thanks to all of you.
Dan Carter and Stan DeAngelis reported on the FP&L meeting held in St. Johns County on June 7th concerning TU's (Temporary/Permanent Underground Service.) The results were that where Building Contractors and Electrical Contractors want to use this method it will be allowed for them. No one will be forced to use this method because someone must assume the liability for the questionable method concerning safety.
John Martin, Carl Beaton, John Griffin, and Dwight Wilkes had a lengthy discussion on breakers that are used and do not have a line or load marked on the breaker and used in different positions.
New Business: Don Brindley reported he is attempting to align the State Chapter IAEI with
Building Officials Association of Florida who has 4 members on the State Board to get the newly formed “Building Safety Coalition” to back us in getting the Florida Legislative to pass a bill making it mandatory for there to be a Master or Journeyman licensed person on every job for each trade involved.
Don Brindley reported the ECLB Board in penalizing contractors who are not keeping up with their CEU's. They must be reported electronically within 5 working days to the State after the CEU is earned. Stan DeAngelis reported that in the year 2003 a fine will be issued to all electronically and it is up to each contractor to see his CEU's are up to date and filed with the state.
John T. Martin made a motion to support the State Chapter President Don Brindley in his trip to New Orleans for the southern Section Conference. It was apparent with the Chapter only allocating $1,000.00 for his travel that would not be enough for the whole year. John's motion was with a top limit of $1,500.00 for this trip. The motion was approve unanimously.
Education Committee Chairman: Don Brindley covered the following code articles; 240-21-B5. Taylor Sams, Phil Dunnington, Carl Beaton, John Griffin and John Martin had a lengthy discussion on this article with questions about inside and outside gutter taps and tap blocks. Carl said it best when he quoted from Article 90 that the National Code is not a design book for installations.
240-33.
Jimmy Douglas drew Dwight Wilkes name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw.
The next meeting will be held on August 1st at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel L. Carter
Secretary
