IAEI Minutes
August 1, 2001
The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Douglas on August 1, 2001 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.
Present at the meeting were Dallas Stratton, John Griffin, Ron Rowe, Jimmy Douglas, Mark Nechvatal, James L. Williams, Cliff Wilson, Chuck Barr, Dwight Wilkes, John T. Martin, Eric Brunn, Joff Filion, Taylor Sams, Michael J. Timpanaro, Don Brindley, Wayne Zeigler and Dan Carter.
John Griffin gave the invocation.
The minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: Don Brindley led a discussion on breakers that may have the line side on top or bottom. He clarified how Article 380-6 of the National Electrical Code allows this. It says that the line side, or energized lugs on the breaker after it is turned off must be identified.
New Business: Jimmy Douglas introduced the rough draft of the Scholarship Fund set up. A major discussion followed with Dwight Wilkes giving a good critique of it. The committee is made up of Don Brindley, Dwight Wilkes and Sam Gerace. Everyone at the meeting was given a rough draft to read and make changes to be discussed at the September meeting.
Jimmy Douglas has requested phone numbers from each member to send to the State secretary. Please call Dan Carter and give him your phone number at (904) 786-3420.
Don Brindley led a discussion about the DBPR 4 hour 1 time only code class to be required of every entity of the construction industry. To keep your license you must take this class before May 2003 or take an equivalent test. Don Brindley is going to see if Sam Gerace who belongs to
Building Officials Association of Florida will present this class for the North Florida Division in Ocala and Jacksonville.
Mike Timpanaro made a motion to donate $250.00 to the Christian Care Center in Lake County. The vote was unanimous. Dwight Wilkes made a motion to pay for Don Brindley to attend this seminar and pay $90.00 for it. The vote was unanimous.
Mike Hoyt is sponsoring a 7-hour CU class on grounding and bonding requirements.
Mike Timpanaro led a discussion about permits and sealed documents by engineers and pointed out the conflict between Articles 471 and 553 of the Engineer's Code.
Dan Carter led a discussion on Local Amendment Procedure concerning local rules to supplement the National Electrical Code.
Dan carter led a discussion on the Maintenance Craftsman in Jacksonville. Some entities are trying to pass a law to establish a new license so they can pull permits and do electrical, plumbing; HVAC, and other trade work as if they were a company. Dan asked for a vote of support from the North Florida Division concerning this issue as he will go before the city council to fight for it for the JMEA. The vote was unanimous.
Don Brindley announced that as President of the State Chapter we were officially supporting a Journeyman or master license person on every job for each trade.
Jimmy Douglas drew Ron Rowe's name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky Ron.
The next meeting will be held on September 5, at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.
