IAEI Minutes
September 5, 2001

The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Douglas on September 5, 2001 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.

Present at the meeting were: John Griffin, Dallas Stratton, Ed Huntsberger, Don Brindley, Michael Timpanaro, Howard White, Thomas Underwood, Stan DeAngelis, Dwight Wilkes, Chuck Barr, Fernando Gonzales, Jim Lindahl, Dan Standish, Ron Rowe, Joff Filion, Jimmy Douglas, J.C. Patrick, Cliff Wilson and Dan Carter.

John Griffin gave the invocation.

The minutes were approved after correcting the dollar amount from $90 to $95 to give Don Brindley to attend the seminar in Lake County.

Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.

Old Business: Jimmy Douglas was still gathering phone numbers and emails for Dan Carter to give to the State Chapter Secretary.

Jimmy Douglas led a lengthy discussion on the Scholarship Fund set up. It was agreed that Dwight Wilkes' draft be corrected and passed out again for committee review and feed back. The committee is also discussing the name for it. For this draft will temporarily name it “IAEI North Florida Division Scholarship Fund.”

Dan Carter led a discussion about the battle fought in Jacksonville over the Maintenance Craftsman License that now has become a reality. This new category will allow this person to act as a contractor to pull permits and do HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Structural work. Proof of 5 years will grandfather existing ones in now. The latest news is that they are about to take this Statewide for all apartment owners. Dan told everyone this was a coalition being formed in Jacksonville with the JMEA, HVAC, NECA, IBEW, and Plumbers etc. to sue them, in court, to stop it. Don Brindley has agreed to add the IAEI's name and support to this fight at the State level. There was a motion to give $500.00 from the North Florida Division to the coalition and the vote was unanimous. Dan Carter thanked everyone and said that he had spoken for the North Florida Division for the vote of confidence the Division had give him when he went before the City Council.

Don Brindley reminded everyone about the 4 hr. CEU classes everyone connected to the construction industry must take before May 2003. They do not say which one to take and there is no electrical course offered. You may take anyone of them. Sam Gerace has agreed to present a core class for our Division. Don Brindley is going to have a 14 hr. course by next August that will include 9 hr. for technical and 3 hr. for electrical contractor specialty credits and 2 hr. for inspector handicap credits. This 14 hr. course and the 4hr. core course will by offered by the North Florida Division and will meet the requirements for both inspectors and contractors.

John Griffin brought in a switch with paperwork that does not show line or load after it is made up, only on and off. It is made to mount any direction. Article 110-31-8 was discussed at length. The discussion continues.

New Business: Ron Rowe led a discussion about when you would need to have engineering done on your plans for plan review. A lengthy discussion followed with exact guidelines produced.

Jimmy Douglas read an email from Don Schleuter letting us know what he has been doing since retirement. Sounds like he is still busy and enjoying life.

Jimmy Douglas read a letter from Square D about a safety switch that could cause a fire if opened under a load. This was an industry alert.

Dallas reported the negotiation with the Holiday Inn about a room rate increase and number guarantees.

Don Brindley reminded everyone of the Ocala State Chapter meeting in Ocala on Saturday 29th of September at the Hilton at I-75 and Hwy. 200. You are welcome to come.

A visitor drew Dan Carters name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky me.

The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.

Respectfully Submitted,

Daniel L. Carter
Secretary
