IAEI Minutes
10-3-01
The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Douglas on October 3, 2001 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.
Present at the meeting were: Dallas Stratton, John Griffin, Bill Thompson, Taylor Sams, Jimmy Douglas, Mark Nechvatal, Dan Standish, Rob Sly, Phil Dunnington, Dan Arlington, Dwight Wilkes, Stan DeAngelis, Wayne Zeigler, Tommy Underwood, Larry Carter, Ed Huntsberger, Don Brindley and Dan Carter.
John Griffin gave the invocation followed by Jimmy Douglas leading in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: The last draft of the Scholarship Fund was corrected and unanimously voted on after a long discussion. Thanks go to Dwight Wilkes, Don Brindley and Sam Gerace for their committee work on this document. Also special thanks goes to the Palm Beach County Division for them sharing their documents with us. This committee was dissolved.
Jimmy Douglas asked Dwight Wilkes to be the Chairman of the Scholarship Fund Applicant Committee and he accepted the position. The other two-committee members are Don Brindley and Bill Thompson. Their job is defined in the application and the decisions of the committee are final.
Dan Carter discussed what has been done locally to resist the “Maintenance Craftsman License issue. Don Brindley extended the discussion to include what he as State Chapter President and his Board of Directors are doing to extend the battle to the State level. Dwight Wilkes also reminded everyone to respond individually to their legislatures to help fight this unlawful action.
Jimmy Douglas introduced some proposed new laws associated with new and existing residential pools. There are four categories of alarms etc. to help some hundreds of children from drowning each year.
New Business: John Griffin asked what do we do since we are going to use the 1999 code until 2005 code comes in while passing by the 2002 code. The IAEI will continue to teach the changes made in the 2002 code even if they are not enforceable. We feel awareness will help when the 2005 code is accepted. The inspectors warned that some articles may be significant change and the contractor would not get it accepted if it was contrary to the 1999 code.
Dwight Wilkes discussed the DBPR core classes required by everyone related to the trades. He said the designs of classes are not good but a good teacher could make them interesting.
Don Brindley reported what happened at the State Board Directors meeting held in Ocala in September.
Dwight Wilkes said he will get with his Scholarship Fund Application Committee and let us know when they will get started. Dan Carter was directed by Jimmy Douglas to make 25 copies and be ready for request for them by the committee.
Phil Dunnington said one of our Founding Fathers, E. Patrick Young has passed away. Our prayers will be with his family.
Ed Huntsberger brought proof from his roast at the installation dinner that he was caught and he seems to be very proud of his trophy.
Jimmy Douglas drew Mark Nechvatal's name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky Mark.
The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka on November 7th at 12:00 noon.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel L. Carter
