IAEI Minutes
August 7, 2002

The meeting was called to order by Ron Rowe on August 7, 2002, at the Holiday inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.

Present at the meeting were: John Martin, Carl Beaton, Charles Pardue, Don Germain, J.C. Patrick, William Thompson, Taylor Sams, Andrew Schirmacher, John Griffin, Dallas Stratton, Eva Hardwick, Dan Standish, Jim Lindahl, Ernie Winfree, Ron Rowe, Don Brindley, Larry Higgins Larry Carter, Jimmy Douglas, Michael Timpanaro, Phillip Dunnington, Wayne Zeigler, Charles Crain, Joff Filion. Cliff Wilson and Dan Carter.

John Griffin gave the invocation. Ron Rowe led the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes were approved as sent out.

Treasurer Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.

Old Business: Don Brindley reported on the seminar in Ocala and the one held in Jacksonville. They were very successful for attendance, membership and profitable to our Division. Don stated we will give the seminar again next year and he is getting up a 1 day 7 hr. class on grounding and pools with grounding.

Mike Timpanaro continued the discussion from last month about using control switches at unit switches on appliances NEC 422.31B. He also led a discussion on using the unit switches as a disconnect NEC 422.31.

New Business: Don Brindley made a motion to have a small charge for inspectors at the seminars we give and also to have them purchase a membership if they attend. The vote was unanimous; thus everyone who takes our seminars will be made a member of our Division.

Ron Rowe read a letter from Max Goodwin the State Chapter President thanking our Division for the support and contribution towards their seminar that was held in Destin, FL.

Dan Carter made a motion to sell 100 books to the Apprentices of the NEFBA at a reasonable price to help the students. A small profit will be made for this assistance to education. The vote was unanimous.

Dallas Stratton made a motion to pay the increase in the lunch charge from $8,24 to $8.44. The vote was unanimous for us to remain at the Holiday Inn and pay the small increase.

John Martin suggested we offer the students an IAEI application when the get their code books from us. This secretary will make it happen.

Mike Timpanaro suggested we get the Buss man to come make a presentation for our Division. It was suggested that maybe it would be possible to get a CEU credit. Ron Rowe mentioned he could get the fire caulking representative to speak and maybe get a CEU credit. Ron told everyone if they knew of anyone who could offer education to us by speaking to let Don Brindley know.

John Griffin led a discussion on conduit in a residential slab going to a kitchen island concerning what kind of conductors for equipment especially the range. It was unanimous by the inspectors that the conduit in the concrete or under it would constitute a wet area thus wiring would need to comply. (UF Cable, THWN, XHHW, etc.)

Larry Carter led a discussion on one service servicing 2 separate building, one being fed from the other and being existing. This was discussed in detail and a disconnect would be needed at the point of entry to the existing building and a 4 wire feeder would refeed the existing panel inside and the old SEU cable abandoned.
