The meeting was called to order by Ron Rowe on December 4, 2002 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.

Present at the meeting were: Mark Nechuatal, Jimmy Douglas, J.C. Patrick, Rick Taylor, Don Brindley, Dallas Stratton, Andrew Schirmacker, San Gerace, Ron Rowe, Dick Widera, Chuck Bar, Morris Tesh, Fernando Gonzales, Larry Higgins, Dwight Wilkes, Carl Beaton, Cliff Wilson, John Martin, Jim Lindahl, Phil Dunnington, Bill Thompson, Taylor Sams, Michael Timponaro, Richard Olds, and Dan Carter.

The minutes were approved as sent out, John Griffin gave the invocation and Ron Rowe led The Pledge of Allegiance

Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton reported we are solvent and all bills are paid.

Ron Rowe asked Dick Widera to speak for the State Chapter and inform our Division concerning membership and its current status. Dick said the problem with membership was the I.O. tracking existing members. Leonard Devine of Palm Beach County is working with the I.O. and the State Chapter with its divisions to correct this problem. Dick also informed us that concerning educational CEUs the inspectors and the contractors need to have that information available if the State does an audit. Do not rely on others to do it for you. Eventually the reporting system will be in place but not for a while yet.

Old Business: Dwight Wilkes reported on the scholarship fund. If you know someone with a trade related situation concerning the electrical industry who needs money for training and education call Dwight Wilkes for a scholarship application. The application must be in by May 1, 2002.

New Business: Dwight Wilkes reported on the task committee of the Florida Building Commission. The final day to accept proposals for change of the 2004 NEC is January 1, 2003. They will have 1 year to consider the change.

Don Brindley said at the January meeting, Mike Timponaro will present a slide show and discussion on Overcurrent Protection of Panelboards.

Jimmy Douglas led a discussion on pool grounding. The final word as the ECLB board gives it is that the Electrical Contractor will be held responsible if anything goes wrong because of grounding. Jimmy also on January 1, 2003 the new Journeyman law goes into effect for construction over 50,000 sq ft or graduate of the Florida Construction Institute.

Dwight introduced Richard Olds, plan reviewer with St. Johns County.

Ron Rowe led a discussion on 110-volt ceiling cameras with cords to plug into attics and drop ceilings. Article 400.8 tells were cords are not permitted and 400.7 tell were it is permitted. The cameras are a violation of the code.

Ron Rowe drew Jim Lindahl’s name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw, Lucky Jim.

The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon on January 1, 2003.

Respectfully Submitted,
