IAEI Minutes
March 5, 2003
The meeting was called to order by Ron Rowe on March 5, 2003 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.
Present at the meeting were: Don Brindley, Dallas Stratton, Andrew Schirmacker, John Griffin, Richard Davis, Charles Crain, Morris Reid, Larry Carter, Edmond Dagner, Ron Rowe, Morris Tesh, Larry Higgins, Cliff Wilson, Jim Lindahl, Phil Dunnington, Bill Thompson, Taylor Sams, Michael Timponaro, and Dan Carter.
The minutes were approved as sent out, John Griffin gave the invocation and Ron Rowe led The Pledge of Allegiance
Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton reported we are solvent and all bills are paid.
Old Business: Dan Brindley reminded everyone that anyone that has not taken a Core Class is about to run out of time.
Don Brindley did not have an update on The Veech Court Case.
Edmond Dagner, a member of the Tack Committee reported the 2002 Building Code will be passed on the 30th of June.
New Business: Taylor Sams warned everyone about Leasing Companies and said in some circumstances you may violate the law. This secretary would welcome anyone to bring more information to the next meeting on this subject.
Mike Timponaro led a discussion on “Selective Coordination of Protection of Elevators etc.” F.B.C. 419, 620.62 NEC, 517.17 GFI NEC.
Charles Crain asked for a discussion on the NEC and the HVAC codes concerning HVAC equipment being installed above drop ceilings and access from the floor level. The equipment must be accessed from the floor level and must not be blocked; the drop ceiling is not fixed and can be removed if necessary. Phil Dunnington also added that an access must be provided within 6ft. of unit.
Tim Lindahl wanted a discussion on light switches that turn on lighting at exit doors. The code does not say where the switch must be. The only switch location in the code is given for the attic access at the opening for the attic light.
Ron Rowe said the swimming pool law about hard wiring of pool alarms was ruled invalid but the judge gave 30 days for appeal. The law is still in effect until that time and must be followed.
Don Brindley led a discussion on pool barriers. If it is a metal base it must be bonded. Ron Rowe said they are also making plastic or fiberglass that do not need bonding.
Phil Dunnington shared information about a panel he encountered that had bolts missing off the buss from the factory. GRU Utility Company had found the problem. Phil was surprised it had lasted so long.
Ron Rowe said because the State Chapter May meeting starts on the same day as our May meeting that Mays North Florida Division Meeting will be canceled. That meting is May 7-10th in Tampa.
Mike Timponaro made a motion to our division to help finance the State IAEI Officers to go to the May Meeting in Tampa. It was unanimous.
Andrew Schirmacker asked for a discussion on what constitutes an Assembly with the difference in the NEC and Safety codes. Edmond Dagner explained it this way. When you are considering what kind of wiring to do you use the NEC for that wiring method over 100 people capacity. If you are considering the Safety rules and code you use those safety features after there is 50 people capacity.
Ron Rowe drew Larry Carter’s name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw, Lucky Larry.
The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon on April 2, 2003.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel L. Carter
Secretary
