IAEI Minutes
August 6, 2003

The meeting was called to order by Philip Dunnington on August 6, 2003 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon.

Present at the meeting were: John Griffin, Charles Crain, Phil Dunnington, Bill Thompson, Jimmy Douglas, J. C. Patrick, Dallas Stratton, Michael Timponaro, Andrew Schirmacker, Wayne Zeigler, Joffre Filion, Don Brindley, John Martin, Fernando Gonzales, Paul McMahon, Cliff Wilson, Taylor Sams, Jim Lindahl, and Dan Carter.

The minutes were approved as sent out, John Griffin gave the invocation and Philip Dunnington led The Pledge of Allegiance

Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton said all bills are paid and we are solvent.

Old Business: The discussion last month about the 10ft and 25ft tap rules were continued this month in a lengthy
Discussions. The discussion that was confusing was if reduced size conductors are fed from a larger size
Breaker immediately adjacent to it feeding a MLO panel.
Is this a tap and dose it comply with 240,21B in the code?
Most everyone said they would accept it; however Mike
Timponaro had a computer slide from Mike Holt that says
this situation is not a tap. If this is true the conductor size
must be the same as they are feeding the breaker.

New Business: Phil Dunnigton has asked Kevin Arnold with Bussman to give a presentation about the “Arc Flash” of panelboards and the 2003 code requirements. Lunch will start at 11:00 AM and the meeting will start at 11:30AM. There will be a short business meeting and then Kevin will begin and his presentation will last a little longer than one hour. See you at the September 3rd meeting.

Don Brindley (membership chairman) reported that the IO is not up to date with membership information and ask everyone to be patient with them. He reported we have about 170 to 180 members although they show only 165 on their computer. Some people have paid and it shows as delinquent.

Phil Dunnington led another discussion on using breaker locks on heat and air handler circuits. It was agreed by most that when located in small closets with no room for a disconnect that a breaker lock would be acceptable. 424.19A.22, 440.14, 424.3

Don Brindley reported that all CEUs must be reported to the state in five days but that the system will not be used until 2005. If you go on line at www.myfla.com you will not find it until then. Don said until it is on line in 2005 each person must keep his own proof he has taken the necessary CEUs.

Dan Carter has asked Mike Holt to give the North Florida IAEI Division copies of the new book on low voltage and the 2002 code changes for each member. Mike Holt offered this to us because he believers in the IAEI and what we stand for. He sent us 165 books. To get your book you must attend the September meeting in Palatka or call Dan Carter and make arrangements to pick it up.

Phil Dunnington discussed a detached barn and feeding it directly from the meter using double lugs. This was accepted by everyone.

Phil Dunnington wanted to know if EMT compression fittings are going to be illuminated or not. Is it listed? We know it is still in the codebook.

Phil Dunnington asked Don Brindley to put on a 1 hour CEU presentation on “Over Current Protection” at the October meeting. Lunch at 11:00AM, the meeting is at 11:30AM.The presentation will last 50 minutes. Certificates will be given.

Philip Dunnington drew Dallas Stratton’s name out of the hat for the 50/50 draw, lucky Dallas.

The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday September 3, 2003.
