IAEI Minutes
January 7, 2004
Philip Dunnington called the meeting to order on January 7, 2004 at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 PM.
Present at the meeting were: John Griffin, Charles Crain, Phil Dunnington, Dallas Stratton, Andrew Schirmacker, Cliff Wilson, Ron Rowe, Jim Lindahl, Joff Filion, Jimmy Douglas, Mark Nechvatal, Don Brindley, Bill Thompson, Taylor Sams, Joe Forsythe, Morris Tesh, Dwight Wilkes, John Martin, Alan Waters, and Dan Carter.
The minutes were approved as sent out, John Griffin gave the invocation and Philip Dunnington led The Pledge of Allegiance
Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton said all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: Phillip Dunnington said there would be a joint meeting in March with
Building Officials Association of Florida at our regular scheduled meeting in Palatka. We voted to cancel our regular business meeting and have a general discussion meeting with
Building Officials Association of Florida members about common interest, goals, and projects. Be there for this informative event March 3, at the Holiday Inn at 12:00 noon. Lunch starts at 11:00 A.M. $ 8.50.
Don Brindley led a safety discussion about a job where a man was electrocuted because of improper wiring. He also warned everybody about the importance of arc flash warnings passing on information from Kevin Arnold.
New Business: Don Brindley presented his membership committee report saying we have 166 members through 2003 and now have 61 who have not paid dues. This secretary was directed to mail out notices to let these people know of their status. This secretary was one of these but did not get my notice from the IO until January 8, 2004. These minutes will go to every member as a reminder to pay your dues when they are due. The date is on your IAEI card.
Don Brindley will give a 14-hour CEU class in Jacksonville in June 2004 and in Ocala in April or May 2004. As a contractor your CEU’s will be due by September. The class will offer all that is needed for both Inspectors and Contractors. There will be 3 segments you can take: 2-Hours Handicap, 3 hrs Safety, Workers Comp, and Business, 9 hours technical. They are ECLB courses so they will count for both Inspectors and Contractors.
Dwight Wilkes led a discussion about a 2500 Amp Mezzanine that requires a ladder to get up to it. There were many issues discussed as to why this was turned down but Dwight said the main reason was found in Chapter 10 Florida Building Code about “Egress”. Also if you had a flash burn on your hands, how could you climb down the ladder? For more info: karnold@bussman.com.
Jimmy Douglas led a discussion on plugs for pools between 5’ and 10’from the pool. The code is inconsistent with it stating at one point’ the plug must be horizontally 5’ from the edge of the pool and in another part it says 5’ in a straight line from the edge of the pool. The latter one allows less than 5’ horizontally but high enough on the wall to be 5’ in a straight line. Confusing?
Jimmy Douglass led a discussion on Temporary power and the use of protective W/P covers on the receptacles. Even though most agreed the use of them in temporary power was not good for safety after they are broken off after they are set, it was decided that the inspectors have no choice but to enforce their application.
Joe Forsyth asked if the application applied to sweaty coolers and was the plug necessary. We agreed the plug was necessary for maintenance and the cover, well: 90-4.
Philip Dunnington pulled Mark Nechvatal’s name from the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky Mark.
The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon February 4, 2004.
Respectfully Submitted,
Daniel L. Carter
Secretary
