Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton said all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: Dwight Wilkes followed up on the egress issue at the Publix Supermarket. He confirmed the FBC under Chapter 10 is what they had used to require circular stairs instead of a ladder as per the plans.
Dwight has also recently returned from the Florida Building Code Committee meeting in Orlando. He reports that the next issue of the code has few changes in it and it should go to press in July. The FBCC meeting for June has been moved back, check their website.
New Business: Phillip Dunnington thanked the member of
Building Officials Association of Florida for attending today’s joint meeting.
Phillip Dunnington started a conversation on Grounding. He is concerned that if the concrete encased electrode were not installed correctly the system would not have a ground. He would like to enforce a separate ground I.E. a Ground Rod in supplement to the rebar. It was discussed and decided that according to the NEC 250.50 and 250.52 that the rebar was sufficient and that there is not a code, which would allow them to enforce a supplement Ground.
Phillip Dunnington asked the
Building Officials Association of Florida members if they had resolved the issue with the corrosive factors of the newer Treated Lumbers. It was reported that this issue has not been resolved.
Phillip Dunnington reported that he had attended a 14-hour class given by The Contractors Institute in Wintergarden, it is free to inspectors and he found it to be time worthy.
Jimmy Douglas told the members that Michael Timponaro has been filling in for inspections and doing plan review. He has been busy and unable to attend.
The members of
Building Officials Association of Florida suggested that for them to have a bigger voice in the industry that membership should be increased, suggesting that IAEI members should also join
Building Officials Association of Florida, John Griffin suggested that their voice would be louder with the cooperation between the
Building Officials Association of Florida and the IAEI.
Philip Dunnington pulled J.C. Patrick’s name from the hat for the 50/50 draw. Lucky J.C.
The next meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon, April 7, 2004.
Respectfully Submitted,
