Charles Crain asked for any nominations from the floor and none where offered.
A motion was made to accept the nominations from the committee as given and to close all nominations. This motion was seconded. The vote for officers will be held at the June meeting.
Don Brindley announced that GCA will be at the June meeting for an overview on the pre-wired wall systems. And that Hilti Corp. will give a fire-stop demo at the August meeting.
Don also announced that his new course on fire alarms will go in front of the board for approval and we should hear back on it this month.
Don Brindley shared a copy of the Informal Interpretation from the Florida building code on mobile homes. I have included a copy.

New Business: Jim Lindahl brought up an article by Jim Pauley in the May/June issue of the IAEI news, this article tells us that AFCI testers cannot be relied upon for “Testing” these tools should be used as indicators and that the only true test is the button on the breaker itself.

Mark Nechvatal told us that the Bill that went to Tallahassee concerning journeyman licenses was voted down. Currently a job over 50,000 sq ft requires one they where trying to lower that to 15,000 sq ft for commercial jobs.

Education: Don Brindley reminded us that the June Seminar in Ocala will be held on the 18th & 19th. It will be at the Marion County Commission Auditorium. The cut off date for the Pre-registration was May 20th. If you are interested please contact Don or myself as soon as possible. The next seminar will be in Jacksonville on July 23rd & 24th at the Modis Building the cut off date for pre-registration is June 20th.

Charles Crain pulled Taylor Sam’s name from the hat to win the 50/50 drawing again. Lucky Taylor.

The next meeting will be held at the Quality Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon June 1, 2005.

Secretary’s Corner: I had the opportunity to attend the 75th annual Florida Chapter meeting and code seminar in Fort Lauderdale this month. First I would like to thank on the behalf of our division the Maynard Hamilton/ Fort Lauderdale Division for putting on an excellent program, the instructors where very knowledgeable and well prepared. The entire event ran seamlessly and appeared to be well organized.
There where 4 topics that I picked up on that I wanted to mention: (1.) The report from the State Secretary urging us to maintain and increase memberships, memberships across the state are down. (2.) The Building Officials Association of Florida is reported to have board member/officer issues; any members loyal to the IAEI would suit us well as Building Officials Association of Florida board members. (3.) Standby electrical generators, during the code portion of the seminar the instructors announced they are designing a course exclusively on this subject. (4.) Senate Bill 442, this is the one that should speed up the adoption process for the NEC.

The next Seminar on the calendar is the Southern Section meeting to be held October 9–12, 2005 in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
