IAEI Minutes
June 1, 2005
www.iaeifl.org Charles Crain called the meeting to order on, June 1, 2005 at the Quality Riverfront Inn in Palatka at 12:00 PM.
Present at the meeting were: John Griffin, Charles Crain, Taylor Sams, Don Brindley, Jimmy Douglas, Dwight Wilkes, Jim Lindahl, Andrew Schirmacher, Dallas Stratton, Cliff Wilson, Mark Nechvatal, Richard Davis, James Drummond, Phil Dunnington, Ernie Winfree, Paul Tynan, Bob Worth, Frank Schickedanz, and Alan Waters.
The minutes were approved as sent out; John Griffin gave the invocation and led The Pledge of Allegiance.
Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton reported all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: Charles Crain asked Don Brindley to make the purchase of a plaque for Joff Filion for his services as last years President. Dwight Wilkes agreed to take care of some tokens of appreciation for the other officers.
Mark Nechvatal brought up the House Bill # 41 which is the Journeyman’s License bill that will require that a licensed electrician be present on all jobs over 15,000 Sq Ft in Lieu of the 50,000 Sq Ft that is currently in effect on commercial and industrial buildings. Evidently it has passed the legislation and is in front of the Governor to sign. We will be watching this closely.
Dwight Wilkes informed us that Florida Power and Light have a new program for the installation of generators. The customer will contact an electrical contractor for sizing and installation and FP&L will supply the gear and the generator with the cost being spread out on the owners light bill. This way the customer can get a good gen. set installed correctly. FP&L is currently looking for willing Electrical Contractors that want to participate.
New Business: Dwight Wilkes made a motion for a vote on the slate of officers offered by the nominating committee. This was approved and seconded. The vote was unanimous and the new officers where sworn in as follows:
President Charles Crain
Vice President Richard Davis
Secretary Alan Waters
Treasurer Dallas Stratton
Education/Membership Chairman Don Bindley
Jimmy Douglas asked the other jurisdictions how they are interpreting the code when it comes to extended stay hotels. Article 210.52 is specific on what is required for dwelling units and with the extended stay hotels that have provisions for permanent cooking equipment these areas can be defined as dwelling units and would require such things as 2 small appliance circuits and arc fault circuits in the bed area. Most other inspectors wanted to table this question until next month where as they could have time to do some homework on the matter.
Don Brindley introduced Paul Tynan and Frank Schickedanz with PW wiring systems. He gave us an informative and interesting look at the pre-fabricated wiring systems that they manufacture. If you are interested you can find them at
www.pwindustries.com. Education: Don Brindley reminded us that the Jacksonville Code Seminar is coming soon. It will be at the Modis Building in Downtown Jacksonville on July 23rd and 24th, from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Early enrollment ended on June 20th but seats are still available. Registration forms are available contact Don or myself for more information.
Charles Crain pulled Taylor Sam’s name from the hat to win the 50/50 drawing again. Lucky Taylor.
The next meeting will be held at the Quality Inn in Palatka at 12:00 noon July 6, 2005.
