Richard Davis called the meeting to order on, August 2, 2006 at the Old Muniche Restaurant in Palatka at 12:00 PM.

Present at the meeting were: John Griffin, Andrew Schirmacher, Richard Davis, Taylor Sams, Dallas Stratton, Charles Crain, Cliff Wilson, Mark Nechvatal, Jimmy Douglas, Dwight Wilkes, Edwin Garcia, Ron Rowe, Robert Marvel, Joff Filion, Don Brindley, Mike McGonigle, Joe McGowen, Larry Hites, and Alan Waters.

The minutes were approved as sent out; John Griffin gave the invocation and led The Pledge of Allegiance.

Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton reported that all bills are paid and we are solvent.

Old Business: Don Brindley warned there are several CEU classes that are available that are not ECLB approved, the latest is a program for $1600.00 that may or may not be a good course, regardless it is not an approved course and will not count toward your CEU’s.

Charles Crain asked Don Brindley if there are hand-outs available for the CEU seminar that he is giving. Don replied that he does have a handout made up but the printing cost would drive the cost of the seminar up. Dwight Wilkes volunteered to take care of the printing.

The position paper that our “Position” Committee has been working on was presented to the body for approval. Some of the members had some input into how the final wording should read. One of which was for the paper to be specific to our division. The motion was made that we accept the paper with the changes. We agreed to table the letter until next months meeting where we can view the changes and have a second look prior to a vote.

Dwight Wilkes informed us that at the electrical TAC meeting the Governors House Bill 7121 concerning Interstate corridor gas stations was introduced and will be voted on at the October meeting. This bill will require that these stations be pre-wire for stand-by power. For more information go to myflorida.com and search with-in the site for house bill 7121.

Dwight also informed us that the state is still planning to adopt the 2005 NEC; the latest date is Dec 1, 2005.

The IAEI will be having a seminar on Emergency/Standby power sources and requirements. This seminar will be held at the Home Builders Association in Maitland Fl. On Saturday October 14 2006 starting at 8:00 and ending at 4:30, for more information contact Ed Fox at 407-836-5558 or Fax 407-836-5545 or Email ed.fox@ocfl.net.

New Business: Don Brindley spoke of a new program; “I Am Safety Smart” this program is being introduced thru a collaboration between IAEI and UL. In this program IAEI members, retirees, and active board members are asked to volunteer to help teach electrical safety to children in various venues; schools, youth camps, scouting events, and other youth gatherings. One of the first things that will need to happen is for volunteers from our Section to be trained; in turn these will train the Ambassadors to teach the children. If you are interested please contact Don.

Cliff Wilson had asked about a question that had come up at the last seminar that he attended. The question was concerning the use of wire (Cable) that is approved for Dry Locations in a Wet environment. The contractor was running a circuit through the attic and outside and down the wall, he was told to convert the wiring from NM-B to a UF cable at the point that it goes from inside to outside. This is correct according to NEC, the following code articles where used in our discussion: 340.10, 334.10, & 300.5(B). The discussion was then tabled for further discussion at next months meeting.

Charles Crain had asked the group their opinion on replacing motors on existing pools that do not have a Bond wire. It was commonly agreed that the use of a double insulated motor was about the only way to go if they used a double insulated motor for replacement it would pass inspection. Dwight Wilkes stated pool motors could be sent to our code standards committee for a position paper.

The next meeting will be held at the “Golden Corral” Restaurant in Palatka at 12:00 noon September 6, 2006.
