IAEI Minutes
November 1, 2006
www.iaeifl.org Richard Davis called the meeting to order on, November 1, 2006 at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Palatka at 12:00 PM.
Present at the meeting were: John Griffin, Taylor Sams, Dallas Stratton, Charles Crain, Cliff Wilson, Jimmy Douglas, Edwin Garcia, Joff Filion, Don Brindley, Mark Nechvatal, Mike McGonigle, Paul McMahon, Fernando Gonzalez, James Drummond, Joe McGowen, Robert Marvel, Larry Hites, Stan Deangelis, Richard Davis, Andrew Schirmacher, and Alan Waters.
The minutes were approved as sent out; John Griffin gave the invocation and led The Pledge of Allegiance.
Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton reported that all bills are paid and we are solvent.
Old Business: A motion was made and seconded that our division purchase a paper folding machine. I will take care of the purchase and will hold and maintain the machine for the duration of my term of office. I had also brought up the IAEI North Florida Division web-site, a lot of the information is dated and needs to be reviewed and revised Richard Davis said he would look into this for us.
The discussion for circular mils of cables was tabled at the meeting before last, the American Electricians Handbook was noted as the source for this info, and should be discussed at the December meeting.
Don Brindley reported that we have a total of 217 members down one from last month.
New Business: Don Brindley also reminded us of the House Bill 7121, this bill is the one that is going to mandate that filling stations have provisions for stand-by electric power. More information can be obtained from the MyFlorida.Com web-site.
Charles Crain stated he had a phone conversation with a homeowner asking why the code for securing NM cable in a residence is not being enforced. The code is clear that NM cable shall be secured every 4.5 ft. Typically the enforcement departments have been lenient on this where cables run through attics perpendicular to the joist. Due to being questioned on this he stated their department has no choice but to start enforcing this. The general conscience was that all counties that are not currently enforcing this code will start. Most of the code enforcement entities agreed they would use the “slow trigger” approach to this enforcement in able to get the word out.
Cliff Wilson asked the question; if on an existing dwelling that did not require smoke detectors when built and is not being remodeled and the owners want to add hard wired smoke detectors in lieu of the 9volt battery operated ones did they need to be interconnected. The general body agreed that it should not be required. This job turned out to be in Duval County, Jimmy Douglas said he would speak with Fire Marshall and contact Cliff of his requirements. Hopefully we can get an update next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at the “Golden Corral” Restaurant in Palatka at 12:00 noon December 6, 2006.
