The May meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Mark Deegan. There were 29 members and guests present.
The minutes were approved as written. The treasurer’s report was approved as read.
I then informed everyone that at the state meeting in Altamonte Springs, Bryan Holland was nominated by the Gulf Coast Division for the office of Secretary of the Florida Chapter of the IAEI. He was elected by proclamation at the business meeting in Altamonte Springs.
Bryan, then gave a secretaries report on the meeting in Altamonte Springs. We then had committee reports. Bryan gave the legislative report. He went over NEC 680-26 and what the FBC is planning on doing with this article. It looks as if the FBC will soon allow the single #8 copper around the perimeter of the pool. It looks like the 2008 NEC will allow this method of equipotential bonding. We also talked about the upcoming enforcement of carbon monoxide detectors in all dwellings with fireplaces or attached garages as of July 1, 2008. Jim Kenna announced that Al Cason from SQ D will give a presentation on new products at our June meeting.
T.J. Lintz and Michele Selvaggio from Hilti were at today’s meeting and gave a presentation on fasteners. They began with an overview of Hilti’s background and services. They talked about the variety of fasteners that Hilti offers. We saw a power point presentation on the many types of fasteners along with their spacing, placement and corrosion protection. We saw adhesive and mechanical anchors and their uses. It was a very informative presentation.
Joe questioned the status of the honorary membership for myself and Mike Looney. We were not sure where it stands. We thought it was taken care of.
Gregg Brown brought up a question regarding a low voltage step light for a pool which is within 5 ft. of the water but is actually below the water level. He asked if this was a violation of the code. The consensus was that this was a code violation. It was closer than 5 ft. to the water. Bryan Holland brought in and passed out to all a diagram of a service with 3 panels, each with 400 amp mains, and 285 amp conductors. He had several questions regarding this service which were discussed.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be June 20, 2007
