Reports of committees:
Bylaws: Lee Wansor: nothing to report.
Education: Tarry Baker: The code class scheduled for the June meeting has been postponed, the paper work was late getting up to the State for approval.. Tarry is trying to schedule a class with Bob Scott from UL, possibly in June or September if he can work out the scheduling with Palm Beach Division. The new Florida Building Code will be probably go into effect in January, but the 2002 NEC can not be adopted until the State meets and votes on a effective date.
Accident/Sickness: Nothing to report.
Entertainment: Jim Sennello reports the golf tournament is going well, with 160 player spots filled out. We have about 40 hole sponsors but would still like more.
Code Clearing: Joe McCann brought up a question about medical offices opening up in strip shopping center strip stores and if they have to comply with NEC article 517. After researching the question the consensus of opinions is that all medical facilities shall comply with that section with the exception of psychiatrists offices. Also brought up was the issue of how much lighting is needed to comply with art 517-50. After checking with the NEC and NFPA, no specific amount of illumination is given.
Financial Report: The ADA seminar went well. A final report will be given when we receive the bill from the State for the instructor. The Division is solvent and has sufficient funds to cover our expenses.
Unfinished Business: Nothing to report.
New Business: John Somers discussed the difficulty in convincing state lawmakers of the seriousness of some of the building industry issues and how their safety issues would have a affect on everyone. Steve Mitchell and Lee Wansor talked about the Florida Building Safety Coalition which we hope will be a forum for having our voices heard. This organization is made up of members of the IAEI, FAPGMI and
Building Officials Association of Florida.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 P.M..
Respectfully Submitted
