In August he has Mr. Scott Wilson from Interteck Testing services coming in. For September we will have one hour class on code. The November meeting is scheduled to be on the new Florida Building Code. In the upcoming new year the state has already approved the next four courses on the NEC. Articles 90-210 will be a two hour class. Articles 215-240 will be a three hour class. Articles 400-424 will be two hours long, as will articles 430-440. These classes will be power point presentations with a book for each course. Tarry also suggested that a late fee should be charged in the future for any at the door attendees for any paid seminars.
Florida Chapter: Lee Wansor who is the Secretary for the Florida Chapter gave us an update, on the Committee Assignments for this year. Our division did very well with Lee as Chairman of the Education, Code Clearing And Code Question Committee and a member of the Electrical Fire and Accident Committee. Steve Mitchell is Chairman of the Legislative Committee. This writer is the the Chairman of the Membership Committee. Tom Bray is a member of the By-Laws Committee, the Nomination Committee and the Legislative Committee. Maynard Hamilton is on the Public Relations and Publicity Committee. Tarry Baker is a member of the Educational, Code Clearing and Code Question Committee and the Legislative Committee. Lee Wansor, Tarry Baker and John Travers will be attending a three hour course in Orlando for continuing education providers. The class will be on procedures that need to be followed when the state enacts its electronic sign- in procedures.
Lee received a letter from an organization called RATCA. They are an air conditioning/ refrigeration organization. They expressed their disagreement with our stand on an journeyman ratio on jobs. They are for education of tradesmen through apprenticeship programs.
Membership: As the new chairman of the chapter membership committee a few thoughts on how to increase membership. All inspectors should be members of the IAEI. It is all our responsibilities to see that this happens. Another idea is to add the cost of a membership on to the fee we charge for seminars. If anyone has any other ideas on how to increase membership please let us know.
Scholarship Committee: Steve Mitchell reported the scholarship fund will be ready to be issued in the next few weeks. If anyone is interested please contact, the financial aid department at Broward Community College.
Golf Tournament: Jim Sennello submitted a report on the golf tournament. The tournament was a great success and everyone had a great time.
The meeting was adjourned to the education portion where John Simmons, presented a three hour class on essentials of electrical contracting part one, business , safety and workers compensation. The meeting was attended by 98 people.
Respectfully Submitted
