Secretary's Report August 15, 2001

The meeting was called to order by First Vice President Tarry Baker at McDonald Electrical Distributors in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday August 15,2001. Present were First Vice President Tarry Baker, Second Vice President Bill Bender, Secretary/ Treasurer
Ted Licitra, Past President Jim Sennello, Directors Tom Bray, Joe McCann, Steve Mitchell, Associates Dave Appler, Ken Kotrady and Gary Simon. Also present was our guest speaker Scott Wilson from Interteck Testing.

The minutes were read and approved. The Treasurers report was given and our Division is solvent with sufficient money to operate. Our Division received a letter from the International Office indicating they will be late with our distribution check. The check will be forwarded to us when they start to recoup some of the money they used for the new code books.

Education: Tarry Baker reported the Board of Rules and Appeals will not be moving to a new location. The proposed Coral Ridge Shopping Center site would have provided us with a handicap accessible meeting location. The State has approved four classes for Tarry next year. There will be one three hour class and three two hour classes. The classes will be power point presentations and booklets will be provided. The Board of Rules and Appeals had completed the administrative section for the Florida Building Code. It will be forty nine pages and include portions from the present South Florida Building Code Broward Edition chapters 1,2,3,45,46,48 and 52. The next step in the process is to have a review by the FBC ad hoc committee and then a final approval by the full board.
There was discussion on what sections in the SFBC Chapter 45 we feel are important to keep, or do we put more emphasis on Chapter 3 and the qualifications of inspectors.

Scholarship Committee: Steve Mitchell reported that if anyone has an interest in the scholarship they can contact the financial aid department of BCC. The value of the scholarship is about $1500. a year, which will cover tuition and books.

New Business: Our Division will take out a full page ad for the Southern Section Meeting in October. Tom Bray suggested we send one of the officers of our board to New Orleans to attend the Southern Section Meeting.

Good of The Association: . With several members getting close to retirement age,
Steve Mitchell suggested we look for new members for the board of directors.

The meeting was adjourned to the education portion where Scott Wilson from Interteck Testing presentated a two hour class . The meeting was attended by 77 people.
