Secretary's Report November 21, 2001


President Dave Cake called the November meeting to order at 12:10 PM. On Wednesday November 21, 2001 at McDonald Electrical Distributors in Fort Lauderdale. Present were President Dave Cake, First Vice President Tarry Baker, Second Vice President Bill Bender, Secretary / Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past President Jim Sennello, Directors Jack Fisher, Joe McCann and Steve Mitchell. Also present were Associate Gary Simon.

The Minutes and the Treasurers report were read into the minutes and approved.

Committee Reports

Scholarship: Steve Mitchell Reported the first scholarship has been awarded. The recipient will be invited to our annual meeting in January.

Education: Tarry Baker gave the board a report on the latest information with the new Florida Building Code. The Code's new effective date will be March. But the swimming pool section of the code will go into effect in January.
The new swimming pool section of the new Florida Building Code includes requirements for illumination levels in commercial pool applications. Also included are clarifications and new requirements for pool alarms.
Also on Saturday, January 19, 2002 we will be sponsoring an all day seminar on fire alarms presented by Mr. Mark Ode from Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
There will be little chance any local amendment will be adopted by the new Florida Building Code. Evidence must be submitted proving the change is necessary due to a local condition that will not apply elsewhere in the state.

Nominating Committee: The slate of officers for 2002 was presented for approval. President Tarry Baker, First Vice President Bill Bender, Second Vice President Lee Wansor, Third Vice President Steve Mitchell, Secretary/Treasurer Ted Licitra. Board of Directors will be Past President Dave Cake, Director Al Bostwick, Director Tom Bray, Director Frank Crandon, Director Jack Fisher, Director Joe McCann, Director Jim Sennello, Director John Simmons, Associate Dave Appler, Associate Pat Cristiano, Associate Ken Kotrady, Associate Jim Joseph, Associate Gary Simon, Associate John Sims and Associate John Somers. Our representives to the Florida Chapter will be Tarry Baker, Tom Bray, Ted Licitra, Steve Mitchell, Jim Sennello and Lee Wansor.

The meeting was adjourned to the education portion of the meeting where questions from the last Southern Section meeting were discussed.
