Committee Reports
Accident/Sickness: Frank Crandon was out about a week recovering from knee surgery.
Education: Tarry Baker reported that there will be an upcoming 3 hour class on workmen's compensation, safety and business.
Golf: Jim Sennello reported all the player spots for the golf tournament June1,2002 have been taken and while hole sponsorship have been doing well we can always use more sponsors.
Scholarship: Steve Mitchell has reported that there has been no word yet on the amount the State will match for scholarship program. Steve said he hoped to have more information by next meeting. The board discussed the possibility of starting another scholarship, either a continual type as the one we have now, or possibly as a one year only type.
Code Clearing: Two items were discussed. First item was how close to an FPL handhole or transformer shall an conduit be left. FPL guidelines indicate the conduit shall be left next to but not terminate into the transformer. There have been instances where electricians have installed the conduit several feet away from the transformer and have just coiled the conductors up. FPL would then terminate the conductors into their transformer. Tarry Baker said that even though THWN conductors are not rated for direct burial installations since this usually is done for temporary poles and would be of an temporary nature it would be acceptable to leave the conduit and conductors just below and right adjacent to the FPL transformer or handhole. The other code issue was pool alarms. The question was at what time will inspectors start enforcing the hard wiring of the alarms. Tarry indicated he would send a notice to all building departments indicating the starting date of the hard wired alarms.
New Business: With the possibility of the interim Florida Chapter Secretary Dick Widera not wishing to serve in that capacity for the next year, an motion was made to recommend Steve Mitchell to the Chapter to serve in that position.
A motion was made to cover the cost of an rental car for use at the Chapter meeting in May. The motion was seconded and passed with an $200.00 limit.
The directors meeting was concluded at 1 P.M. so we could start the education part of the meeting. NEC articles 210-240 was the topic discussed. We had 117 people attend the meeting.
