Secretaries Report November 20, 2002

The meeting was called to order by President Tarry Baker at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday November 20, 2002. Present was President Tarry Baker, First Vice President Bill Bender, Second Vice President Lee Wansor Third Vice President Steve Mitchell, Secretary/ Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past President Dave Cake, Directors Al Bostwick, Tom Bray, Frank Crandon, Jack Fisher, Joe McCann John Simmons
Associates Pat Cristiano and John Simmons. Also Present was Dick Widera Florida Chapter Secretary.

The minutes of the last meeting and treasurers report was given and accepted

Committee Reports

Education: Tarry reported as per the latest information from the State the 2002 NEC should be adopted on March 1, 2003. Tarry discussed his upcoming class schedule for 2003. We should be having a three hour class in April on workmen compensation and safety. Our division will be sponsoring an eight hour 2002 NEC code change class on Saturday February 22, 2003 at the Tam O' Shanter Golf Club in Pompano. The class will be presented by Mr. John Minick from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Also planned for next year will be classes on hazardous locations, fire penetration, fire alarms and a plan review class.
The South Florida Building Officials Association will be hosting a two day conference in March. Topics will include structured wiring systems, carnivals, special events and accessibility. Both Steve Mitchell and John Simmons will be speaking or presiding at that meeting.
Dick Widera reported that the State is having a problem with their electronic filing system for our inspector certification hours and highly recommends everyone to hold on to all class certificates.
Dave Cake suggested our division also sponsor an accessibility class maybe in April for those individuals who could not attend the BOIA conference.

Florida Building Safety Coalition

Steve Mitchell reported that the FBSC has developed a 200 hour course on cross training inspectors. This would include a thirty five hours of class work which the IAEI will be involved in. Dick Widera will be getting with Ruben Rocha who is the education chairman for the Florida Chapter.

Membership

Steve Mitchell will be looking into the membership issue for our division. After looking at the membership list he believes there are errors on the list but will try and work through them.

Scholarship

The latest information from BCC is there has not been any State matching funds and it is unknown when or if any will become available. Steve reported that Florida Gold Coast Electrical Contractor Association has made a substantial donation to the scholarship fund.

Dave Cake presented the list of nominees for the Division for 2003. They are as follows; President Lee Wansor, First Vice President Steve Mitchell, Second Vice President James Sennello, Third Vice President Frank Crandon, Secretary/ Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past President Tarry Baker, Directors Al Bostwick, Tom Bray, Dave Cake, Jack Fisher, Joe McCann, John Simmons, Jim Sugg, Associates Dave Appler, Pat Christiano, Jim Joesph, Ken Kotrady, Gary Simon, John Sims, John Somers and Ed Zymroz.

The Board of Directors meeting was adjourned at 1 p.m so Tarry could start the education portion of the meeting which was based on the questions at the Southern Section Meeting held in Nashville last month. The Code Moderator was Dave Cake, Chief Electrical inspector, City of Tamarac and the Code Panelists were Jack Fisher, Electrical Inspector, Broward County Schools, Ted Licitra, Electrical Plans Examiner, Broward County, Joe McCann, Chief Electrical Inspector, City of Coral Springs and Dick Widera, Field Followup Services Inspector, ETL Semko. Discussion follow with 117 attendees.
