Secretary’s Report March 19, 2003
The March meeting of the Maynard Hamilton Division was called to order by President Lee Wansor at 12:10 p.m. at McDonald Distributers in Fort Lauderdale. Present at the meeting was President Lee Wansor, First Vice President Steve Mitchell, Third Vice President Frank Crandon, Secretary/Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past President Tarry Baker, Director Al Bostwick, Director Dave Cake, Director Jack Fisher, Director Joe McCann, Director John Simmons, Associates John Sims and Ed Zymroz.
The Secretary’s report was given and approved. The International office has received our IRS tax return so we will be eligible for the December to May 2002 distribution. Along with the treasurers report was the financial statement from the NEC Code Change Seminar that was given in February by John Minick of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. We had an excellant turn out for the class with 140 people giving up a Saturday to attend. We thank John for coming down to do the class for us.
Our Division is looking into presenting an ADA class maybe in June. The State can provide a instructor if we pick up their expenses. The location for the class is still being looked into with Crystal Lake Country Club or a class room at the Associated Builders And Contractors Institute facility as possible locations.
Lee Wansor indicated that Board of Directors member Tom Bray is retiring on April 11, 2003.Lee has selected Mickey Bray of the City of Pompano Beach Building Department to replace him. Dave Appler from Florida Power and Light indicated to us at the last meeting he was also retiring and will bring in his replacement to the next meeting he will be able to attend.
Committee Reports:
By laws: Steve Mitchell reported it has been a quiet session in the State Legislature so far and has nothing new to report.
Education: Tarry Baker will put on a hazardous location class with Appleton in April. This will be a continuation of the class done at the BOIA meeting in March. In June their will be 2 hours on Fire alarms presented by Mike Lange who is a State Fire Marshal. Dave Cake suggested we do a class on carnivals since we always have so much trouble with those types of events when they come to town.
Membership: Steve Mitchell will be the chairmen to go along on what has been set up at the Chapter level. Joe McCann asked if anyone had joined at the last meeting. We did have a couple of new members sign up but a few others paid the higher non member fee to attend the seminar.
Public Relations and Publicity: Dave Cake and his committee will be working on developing a newsletter for the Division in the upcoming months.
Accident and Sickness: Eric Bonny from the County fell of a ladder and has been out of work for 2 weeks but is now doing better and is back at work. Jim Heath had shoulder surgery and has been out of work since the end of January. Kurt Stout from Plantation had knee surgery.
Entertainment: The golf tournament is doing real well with all the player slots filled. The hole sponsorships are also doing well. Jim Sennello and Dave Cake will be going over last years list of hole sponsors to compare to what we have so far this year.
Scholarship: Steve Mitchell reported that the State will not match our contribution to the scholarship fund again. BCC will be in contact with us soon to see what our intent will be for this year. We could just fund a one year $1500. Scholarship or contribute to the endowment or do nothing. After much discussion it was agreed to table this decision until our next meeting.
New Business: A motion was made and approved to place a full page in the Florida Chapter meeting in Tampa this May.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 P.M. so we could start the education portion of the meeting. To days class will be on Business with Dave Thom, Executive Vice President of McDonald Distributers, on Safety including lock out tag procedures with Bruce Pockey, McDonald’s Chief Executive Officer and John Simmons doing Workmen compensation. We had 99 attendees at the class
