Committee reports:

By laws: Lee inquired if anyone had a chance to read the changes to the operating rules that were distributed to everyone at the beginning of the year. Since there was very little response he tabled any action on the rules until next meeting.

Education: An inspector training class is being put together by Tarry for next year. It will be for new inspectors and consist of an eight hour class for inspectors and a four hour class for plans examiners. For the plans examiner class a set of plans will be selected and reviewed. Lee suggested new inspectors receive some training on public relations. Tarry went over his class schedule for the next couple of months. Our next class will be on June 11, 2003 and the September meeting will be in October instead.

Entertainment: Our division’s annual golf tournament is next month and Jim reported hole sponsorships are still needed. Jim also mentioned he has all the golfers he needs.

Accident and Sickness: Bob McCorrmick the executive director for Building Officials Association of Florida had quadruple bypass surgery. Our division will send a get well card to him expressing our best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

Membership: We are trying to get the password situation with the international office worked out and once we do membership will be in better shape.

Scholarship: Steve reported he made a slight change in the scholarship account. He rolled our existing account to an interest bearing account paying about 1 ½%. A vote was taken and a $1500 scholarship for next year will be awarded.

Legislature: Tarry reported there was a proposal up in Tallahassee to require inspectors to take a two hour class on false alarms. It is still looking good for the Florida Building Code to adopt the 2002 NEC at the end of June. Also reported are rumors that the Governor might privatize the Florida Building Code.

Good of the Association: The board welcomed Mickey Bray to the Board of Directors. Mickey will be replacing Tom Bray who retired.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:55 p.m. so Tarry could start the education portion of the meeting which was on false alarm prevention. The meeting was attended by 97 people.
