President Lee Wansor called the August meeting of the board of directors for the Maynard Hamilton/ Fort Lauderdale Division to order at 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday August 20, 2003. Present was President Lee Wansor, Second Vice President Jim Sennello, Third Vice President Frank Crandon, Secretary/Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past president Tarry Baker, Directors Al Bostwick, Joe McCann, Jim Sugg, Associates Ken Gilbert, Pat Cristiano, John Sims and Ed Zymroz.
The minutes from the last meeting and the Treasurers report were read and approved.
Secretary’s Report: The Palm Beach County Division held a meeting pertaining to the 2004 Florida Chapter meeting, which is to be held in May 2004. Our Division will be helping Palm Beach and the following year, when it will held in Fort Lauderdale they will in turn help us out. It was agreed upon that both Divisions might purchase items together so that a savings by buying in quantity can occur. The Bob Scott Memorial Grounding seminar went really well. Our Division sent a check for $8700 to the Memorial Fund.
Education: Tarry discussed the upcoming class schedule with a four-hour class on photovoltaic systems coming up om November 19,2003 at noon. We are expecting to hear from Tom Ricci soon pertaining to Tom receiving from the State approval for a two-hour ADA class, which we hope to sponsor in October.
Entertainment: The board voted to give a deposit to Gibbys Restaurant for our annual meeting and installation of new officers in January. Jimmy Sennello is still looking for a golf Course to hold our annual golf tournament. Crystal Lake has been sold and Jim has not yet decided if we can use that facility again.
Scholarship: Since we have sufficient funds in our treasurer’s account the board voted to approve a second $1500 scholarship. One had already been approved earlier in the year.
Good of the Association: The States position on journeymen on job sites was discussed in length with many good points brought up. One point that was mentioned was where will the pool of Master Electrician’s come from? Before the State mandated building Code many electrician’s studied to pass their journeymen’s test first as a stepping stone to getting their Masters. Now that that is gone the incentive to get a masters license is decreased. One other subject that was brought up was a problem many inspectors have been having with services being re tapped by FPL without permits and inspections. This problem happens frequently after hours by FPL emergency crews.
Lee adjourned the meeting about 1 p.m. so Tarry can start the education program. Clyde Knoppe from EGS Electrical Groupe will have a presentation on Transformers. 84 people attended the meeting.
Respectfully Submitted
