Secretaries Report October 15, 2003

President Lee Wansor called the October meeting of the Maynard Hamilton / Fort Lauderdale Division of the IAEI to order at 12:15 on Wednesday October 15,2003. Present were President Lee Wansor, First Vice President Steve Mitchell, Third Vice President Frank Crandon, Secretary/Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past President Tarry Baker, Directors Al Bostwick, Jack Fisher, Joe McCann, Jim Sugg, Associates Ken Gilbert, Gary Simon and Ed Zymroz.

The minutes and Treasurers report from the Last meeting were read and approved. The ADA class that was just recently held was a big success. We would like to thank Ed Zymroz and the Associated Builders and Contractors Institute for the use of their facilities.

Committee Reports

Entertainment: Jim Sennello reported that a facility for the Divisions annual golf tournament has been found. We will use the Carolina Club for next years tournament which will be held on May 8,2204. Jim said he would limit the field to 144 players.

Scholarship: Steve had an updated report on the scholarship situation. The State has finally sent some matching funds to BCC. Unfortunately its only about $800.00. Steve is requesting a full audit from BCC to see better where the funds are being used. Other possibilities that were discussed were to possibly take over the Scholarships next year and fund various apprentices in the area.

Education: Tarry will have a four-hour class on Photovoltaic systems in November. Tarry is still having difficulty with posting previous class attendance with the State; they have a tendency to lose his information. Steve brought up an issue with the State adopting the International Residential code as a stand alone residential code. It is our belief the NEC residential code NFPA 70A is more than sufficient as a residential code we and the Building Officials Association of Florida will be expressing our feelings on this matter to the State.

New Business: Lee suggested we form a nomination committee for next year. Appointed to the committee were Ted Licitra, Steve Mitchell and Jim Sugg. We will be seeking members who wish to remain on the board for next year and to seek any new members who might be interested in serving as a director. Ken Gilbert who represents FPL on the board will be looking into FPL and their policy of retapping services after normal working hours and on weekends. We have a problem receiving notification when a service installed without permits gets re taped during those time frames.

The meeting was adjourned at 1 p.m. so Tarry can start the education potion of the meeting, which was on fuses.

Respectfully submitted

Ted Licita

Secretary/Treasurer
