Secretary’s Report February 18, 2004
President Steve Mitchell called the meeting to order at 12 p.m. on Wednesday February 18 at City of Coconut Creek city hall. Present was President Steve Mitchell, First Vice-President Jim Sennello, Third Vice-President Al Bostwick, Secretary/Treasurer Ted Licitra, Past President Lee Wansor, Directors Tarry Baker, Bill Bender, Jack Fisher, Joe McCann, Pat Richardson, Jim Sugg, Associates Ken Gilbert and Ed Zymroz.
The minutes and treasurers report were read and approved. A financial report that indicated all expenses and income was also submitted for the board’s approval. Other financial news was that we will be switching banks. We were not pleased with the lack of branches for the existing bank and also the fee schedule. Our division was assed a fee for cashing too many checks last month due to the Friends of Tarry Baker seminar.
Committee Reports
By Laws: Steve had nothing to report.
Legislature: Jack Fisher had some information about a proposed bill he found while doing research on elevators. The home builders association is trying to increase the ability of private inspection companies to bypass local government’s ability to follow up on inspections done by private inspection companies.
Membership: Steve is working on membership and we have several members renew their membership after receiving letters.
Public Relations: Nothing to report.
Accident and Sickness: Nothing to report.
Entertainment: Jim Sennello spoke about our division’s annual golf tournament which will be held on Saturday May 8 at the Carolina Club. Jim mentioned he has plenty of players and is looking for hole sponsors. Jim always puts on a great tournament and everyone has a great time. If anyone would like more information about the tournament please contact Jim or Dave Cake.
New Business: The position of secretary for the Florida Chapter will be available in May and our division has forwarded Steve Mitchell’s name for consideration for the position.
Florida Building Safety Coalition: Steve reported that the
Building Officials Association of Florida has joined the ICC as a chapter. Steve also mentioned he has become a member of the
Building Officials Association of Florida board of directors.
Education: Tarry talked about some of the upcoming classes he has scheduled. In April we have Kevin Arnold from Bussman Fuses presenting a two hour class on fuses, in June the classes will be Workmen’s Compensation, Business and Safety. Tarry is also working on two hour classes on plan review and on inspections. Joe McCann spoke the problems the State is still having getting accurate and up to date information about inspector’s continuing education credits on their web site.
Good of the Association: Tarry thanked everyone for all their efforts and support for him and his family. The friends of Tarry Baker seminar was a great success and the proceeds went to cover his family’s medical bills.
2005 Chapter Meeting: There was meeting with the Radisson Bahia Mar Hotel to go over some details on the 2005 Florida Chapter meeting which will be hosted by our division next year. We checked out the main meeting room and patio areas where the barbeque will be held. As the time gets closer more meetings will be planned.
The meeting was adjourned so Tarry could start the education portion of the meeting.
