SECTION 2703 MO01FICATIONS TO NFPA 70

The following sections of NFPA 70 shall be modified as indicated in items 1 through 13. (FBC) 1.Add the following text to Article 230-70~a):

"If the service disconnecting means is located at a point that is not accessible and available for servicing, and disconnecting in case of emergencies, there shall be a shunt trip switch installed on the exterior of the building or structure. The shunt trip switch,when installed should be between six (6) feet and six feet seven inches (6'7") above finish grade. A sign constructed of permoment materials with no less than 1-112" high letters designating "Shunt Trip - Main Disconnect" shall be located on the exteriorof the building or structure, and approximately one foot (1') above and one foot (1') to one side of the shunt bip mechanism. (FBC) Add the following text to Article 230-70: (d) The service disconnecting means for residential services shall be installed on the outside of the building."

2.Add the following notes to Table 250-66:

"3. Minimum size grounding electrode conductor shall be a minimum of #4 bare solid copper. 4. A ground rod is not required at aCT meter can."

3.Add the following section to article 250:

(FBC) LL250-118: An equipment grounding conductor shall be provided in all buried electrical feeder and branch raceway systems to insure electrical continuity

4.Add the following sections to article 280:

"280-3 Listed and labeled, by a nationally recognized testing laboratory, surge arrestors shall he installed on all services." (renumber existing sections)

S.Add the following to Section 600-5(c):

(4) Conductors and neon tubing shall maintain a height of at least eight feet from the ground, and shall not be installed on walls where they canbe reached from platforms, balconies, fire-escapes or through windows, doors or other similar openings. Neon below eight (8) feet shall be enclosed to prevent direct contact with neon tube.

EXCEPTION: Where signs are totally enclosed so that ready accessibility is prevented and signs that totally insulate all connecting terminals, the eight foot height

requirement shall not apply.

6.Add the following to Section 600-21:

"(g) When neon hlbing is removed for repairs,jumpers shall be installed in high-voltage wire, supported with the same clearance as tube, but the jumpers must be removed within seven days.
(h) Only window-type and portable transformers may be plugged in and all other transformers shall be permomently connected with a listed method of wiring."
