Minutes of the November 19, 2003 Meeting
The November meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Bill Pancake. The meeting was held at the International Super Buffet in Port Charlotte. There were 32 members and guests present. After the pledge, all members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes were approved as written.
The Treasurers report was approved as read.
Today’s meeting was a combined meeting of the Gulf Coast Division of the IAEI and the local
Building Officials Association of Florida. There was a good turnout for this meeting. This is something we should do more often.
I began by giving a brief report on the One and Two Family Dwelling electrical seminar we had on November 1st. Mark Ode came in and put on a great presentation. We had 102 attendees at the seminar. We hope to have Mark back in the beginning of the year. Hopefully we can do a half day on Article 680 (swimming pools) and the afternoon on a couple of other articles.
Hans Behrens, from the City of Venice, and the
Building Officials Association of Florida, gave an update on the International Code. He also told us that the
Building Officials Association of Florida would like the IAEI to nominate one of our members to be put on the regional board for the ICC codes. We told him we would take care of this at our next meeting and get back to the
Building Officials Association of Florida with our representative.
Kevin Arnold, representing Cooper-Bussmann, was given the floor and gave us a presentation on arc-flash and product labeling. Kevin put on a great presentation which included an explanation of arc-flash and a presentation of various protective equipment and tools which he brought with him today. Kevin talked about NFPA and OSHA standards and requirements for working on and around electrical equipment. He passed out low peak fuse, arc-flash calculators. We certainly appreciated kevin’s presentation today.
Because of the combined meeting today, we did not go over our monthly code questions. We will carry them over to our December meeting. We also cut short our regular business.
David Morris, president of the Gulf Coast
Building Officials Association of Florida, took over the meeting, and the
Building Officials Association of Florida conducted a shortened version of their meeting. David, also mentioned that he would like to see more of these combined meetings. Both organizations have some of the same interests and goals. It’s a great idea and we will work towards that in the future.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be December 17, 2003.
