Minutes of the December, 17, 2003 Meeting
The December meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Bill Pancake. The meeting was held at the International Super Buffet in Port Charlotte. There were 12 members and guests present. After the pledge, all members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes were approved as written.
The Treasurers report was approved as read.
Because of the low turnout at today’s meeting due to the holidays, we decided to hold nomination of officers for the coming year at next month’s meeting.
Toby Barber, representing Ranger America, will be the guest speaker at the January meeting. She will give a presentation on low voltage technology.
The guest speaker at today’s meeting was Mike Seymore, representing Appleton Electric. He gave a very informative presentation on hazardous locations and equipment. He passed out some excellent literature and also brought with him many samples of his products. Cary W. Jones of United Electrical Sales in Orlando, also participated in the presentation.
There was a lively question and answer session following the presentation. Hazardous locations are broken into classes I, II and III., divisions 1 and 2, and groups A, B, C, and D. It is very important to use the correct materials for the location.
Ben Cotroneo, the Building Official in Cape Coral, Told us that the City of Cape Coral is now hiring inspectors. They can work for 90 days under Building Inspectors license, after that they must get their own license.
We discussed the possibility of putting one of our members at
Building Officials Association of Florida meetings on a regular basis. We considered Pete Pluta and Tom Lasprogato for that position. This would give us representation at Building Officials meetings. We will discuss this at our next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be January 21, 2004.
