Minutes of the May 19, 2004 Meeting
The May meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Bill Pancake. The meeting was held at the International Super Buffet in Port Charlotte. There were 20 members and guests present. After the pledge, all members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes were approved as written.
The Treasurers report was approved as read.
This was followed by our committee reports.
I reminded everyone about our upcoming seminar on June 26th. Marc Ode will be presenting articles 680, 300, 517, 430 and 440. We should have a great turnout.
Bill Pancake gave a report on the IAEI Annual State Meeting and Code Seminar held last week in West Palm Beach. Bill also passed around some fittings and new products he brought back from the trade show at the meeting.
We had a lengthy discussion regarding grounding electrodes. We discussed the use of the footer steel as a grounding electrode and how it should be used. The NEC now tells us that the footer steel should be used as part of the grounding electrode system where available. We believe that the 2005 NEC has deleted the words “where available”, which means the use of the footer steel will be mandatory on new construction.
Bill talked about the IAEI and the ICC. He also told us that because of his work load, Ruben Rocha will not be doing the IAEI website any longer.
We then had a discussion regarding the updated Charlotte County permit and reinspection fees. It is a rather large increase. The minimum fee for a miscellaneous permit seems to be $90.00. This would include sevice changes, water heater replacements, etc.
It was learned that at our August meeting, we will have a representative from Erico speaking about grounding.
Bill Pancake went over some of the proposed code changes that have been accepted in principal.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be June 16, 2004.
