Minutes of the June 16, 2004 Meeting

The June meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Bill Pancake. The meeting was held at the International Super Buffet in Port Charlotte. There were 28 members and guests present. After the pledge, all members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written.
The Treasurers report was approved as read.
This was followed by our committee reports.
We discussed speakers for future meetings and upcoming events.
June 26th is the date of our seminar with Mark Ode at Victoria Estates.
Mark LaSalle, manager of CED electrical supply in Port Charlotte, our new product committee chairman, showed us a new product from Nutone Manufacturing. It was a new fan/light combination fixture. (70 cfm and 70 sones) The unit was passed around for all to inspect. This type of presentation is very important to both inspectors and contractors. We all must keep up with new products.
Ms. Chris Benetatus, from Rice Fire Stop Systems, put on a very informative slide presentation and talk about fires and injuries. She showed us the various color coded fire stop caulking. She told us that fire accidents and deaths caused 11.2 billion dollars in losses last year. Life safety is our main concern and property protection is number two. Safety information is important for suppression and containment of fire and smoke. Sixty seven per cent of all deaths related to fires are caused by smoke inhalation. There is no rating for fire materials, only systems.
A question and answer session followed.
A lively code discussion followed. The question was: Can we install 15 ampere receptacle outlets on #14 wire in a laundry room? It was decided that 20 ampere receptacles on #12 wire only, would be permitted.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be July 21, 2004.
