Minutes of the September 15, 2004 Meeting

The September meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by 1st Vice President, Joe Schneeberger. The meeting was held at the International Super Buffet in Port Charlotte. There were 19 members and guests present. After the pledge, all members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written.
The Treasurers report was approved as read.
This was followed by our committee reports.
We began the meeting by discussing the 2005 NEC and it’s adoption. It is believed that the 2005 NEC will be adopted quicker than the 2002 was adopted. We are planning to have the 2005 code change seminar in two parts. Hopefully, Mark Ode will be coming down to present these seminars.
Joe suggested we add another page to the monthly E-mail I send out. He thought it would be a good idea to add the list of meeting dates, officers, and committee chairman to our E-mail. I will add this to the next announcement.
We then went over our committees and our committee reports.
I mentioned that I had talked with Mark Ode after hurricane Charley and he told me that he and John Minick would like to come down and put on a workshop to benefit organizations or someone in need after the hurricane. We discussed possibilities and Ben Cotroneo suggested we use the proceeds to benefit needy people in our organization or in the electrical field in our area. We will discuss this at our next meeting.
We discussed speakers at future meetings. Ben told us he would speak to his contact who will give us a presentation on low voltage alarms. He will hopefully have him set up at our next meeting. He will let me know.
Scott Ritchie, from the U.L. office in Tampa was with us today and gave us some information on guidelines for handling water damaged electrical equipment.
Scott passed out a NEMA publication regarding this topic and he talked about the problems which could occur with electrical equipment after getting wet for an extended period of time.
Joe brought up the idea of having another joint meeting with Building Officials Association of Florida. Ben and I will bring it up at next week’s Building Officials Association of Florida meeting, if there is one.
We concluded the meeting today by discussing what the different jurisdictions were requiring after the hurricane. We discussed permitting, inspections and what new procedures were going to be implemented as a result of the storm.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be October 20, 2004.
