Minutes of the March 15, 2006 Meeting
The March meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Gregg Brown. The meeting was held at the International Super Buffet in Port Charlotte. There were 31 members and guests present. After the pledge, all members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written.
The Treasurers report was approved as read.
I began by giving a report on the upcoming Chapter Meeting we are hosting.
We talked briefly about Red Vector, the service which allows you to get continuing education on the internet. The contact person is Steve Richner at 1-866-546-1212. If you mention you are with the IAEI you will get a reduced rate of $75.00 for 4 courses.
Bryan Holland went over the Florida Building Code amendment process and a possible upcoming amendment regarding the bonding of all metal studs in a building. There have been a couple of deaths throughout the state where metal studs came into play. A discussion followed regarding the use of sheet metal screws for bonding of the metal studs.
We then had our committee reports. During the ECF report, Bryan Holland invited everyone to the ECF awards banquet in Sarasota. He also told us that they need more instructors for next year at the Venice campus.
Jim Kenna went over the agenda for the next couple of months. Our April meeting will be a joint meeting with
Building Officials Association of Florida. We will be holding the meeting on the scheduled
Building Officials Association of Florida meeting date, which is April 26th. Nick Sasso from DBPR will be the speaker. Generac will be giving a presentation at our May meeting.
Bill Pancake gave a bylaws update.
Chapter 13 of the Florida Building Code was brought up. This is the section with the new requirements for lighting in large buildings. We have a one hour presentation on this chapter scheduled for the chapter meeting in Naples.
George Blanton, from SqD was introduced and gave us a presentation of their new automatic transfer switch.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be April 26, 2006
