Minutes of the May 17, 2006 Meeting
The May meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President Gregg Brown. There were 22 members and guests present.
The secretary’s report was approved as written. The treasurer’s report was approved as read.
I began the meeting by giving a report on the chapter meeting we hosted in Naples, May 10th through the 13th. It was a huge success. It was a great meeting. I didn’t have the final numbers yet, but we had about 185 registered with about 70 guests. Financially, we did not lose money. Once again, I did not have the final numbers yet. We did not hear one complaint regarding the meeting. Our committee did a great job. We had plenty of help at the meeting. Gregg , then presented me with a gift from the division, recognizing my work on the meeting. It was greatly appreciated. Next years chapter meeting will be in Altamonte Springs at the Hilton. This is just past Orlando. I also told everyone that the Southern Section meeting this year will be in Fort Worth Texas, October 8 – 11. We also told everyone that Tom Lasprogato is the Florida Chapter President for the coming year.
Bill Pancake gave a report on the Wattstopper presentation at the Naples meeting. We will try and get them to our June meeting to give a presentation. This will be on the new requirements in Chapter 13 of the Building code regarding lighting in large buildings.
Bryan Holland passed out info and quickly went over some of the significant 2008 code proposals. We will discuss these at a later meeting.
Jim Kenna told us that either Coleman Powermate or Wattstopper will give a presentation at our June meeting. I will let everyone know in the announcement.
Luis Bass, from Intertek, which is ETL, was then introduced. Luis told us all about the services ETL provides. They are a testing lab (NRTL) which is once again providing service in Florida, with an office in Lakeland. He passed out information booklets and explained the procedure to all. He has only been in Florida for about three weeks, but ETL saw a need for the office once again in Florida. They used to have an office in Orlando. We appreciated him coming to our meeting and we’re glad ETL is back in Florida.
Gregg Brown raised a couple of issues, one of which was, because of the rising cost of copper, they are beginning to use aluminum feeders. If the conductors are being changed from copper to aluminum, is a plans change needed? The answer is yes.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be June 21, 2006
