The July meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by President, Mark Deegan. There were 26 members and guests present.
The minutes were approved as written. The Treasurer’s report was approved as read.
Committee reports followed. Jim Kenna gave an update on upcoming guest speakers for future meetings. Bryan Holland gave an update on carbon monoxide legislation,
Building Officials Association of Florida interpretations, and UL advisories. Bennett Rosenberg gave an update on the ECF. I gave a reminder about the August meeting being a combined
Building Officials Association of Florida and IAEI meeting. We will hold this meeting on the regular
Building Officials Association of Florida day and time. This will be August 22nd. I also went over the 2008 Code Change seminar I had scheduled on November 17th, with Mark Ode. The membership voted to move the seminar to early next year in order to receive CE’s for the next renewal period. I will change the date with Mark. We also voted to purchase and use the IAEI Analysis of Changes books for the seminar. Joe Schneeberger brought to the attention of the membership, a serious error in the July/August issue of the IAEI News Magazine. The editor intended to publish a notice on the death of Harvey Johnson, but accidentally printed Joe’s name instead. A retraction will be published in the next edition.
Jeff Small, GE Consumer and Industrial Specification Engineer, gave a presentation on NEC 2005 Selective Coordination Requirements. The course covered selective coordination of emergency system and legally required standby system overcurrent devices. A lengthy discussion followed the presentation.
Greg Brown asked a question regarding inspection practices for concrete encased electrodes. The issue was discussed among the inspector members.
Joe Schneeberger asked a question on when a switch controlled light is required for an attic space. The members discussed the issue and concluded that a light is required when the attic is used for storage or equipment as detailed in 210.70(a)(3) of the NEC.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.
The next meeting will be August 22, 2007
