Jimmy Douglas called the meeting to order on; August 1, 2007 at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Palatka at 12:00 PM. John Griffin led us in Prayer & the Pledge.

Present at the meeting were: Dallas Stratton, Cliff Wilson, Jimmy Douglas, Edwin Garcia, Don Brindley, Mark Nechvatal, Joe McGowen, Richard Davis, Charlie Mini, Jim Lindahl, Don Schlueter, Glenn Brown, Fernando Gonzalez, Charlie Grebe, Wayne Zeigler, Larry Hites, Mike Brooks, Luther Kennett, Joff Filion, Greg Ferrone, and Alan L Waters.

Treasury Report: Dallas Stratton reported that all bills are paid and we are solvent.

Old Business: One of our members, Cliff Wilson, of Dawn Electric passed away on July 11, 2007. He was even in attendance for our last meeting, held that day. Cliff was a very active member in the electrical community and was faithful in attending the I.A.E.I meetings and always seemed to have a pertinent code question.

On that note, there was a question asked by Cliff last month about “interlock kits” being used as transfer equipment. More discussion followed this month on that and “Kirk key” systems being used as transfer equipment. We even had a couple of Gentlemen from Cutler-Hammer to help with this discussion. We thank Dave Altec and Bring Strong for their input into this discussion. The “general” consensus was for those items to be considered suitable for use as transfer equipment; they would need to meet U.L. Standard #1008. If you are not sure a county where you are doing work will allow these items, it would be best for you to contact the “AHJ” in that municipality.

Don Brindley reported what counties have gas stations and the corresponding counties they are in that are still not in compliance with the State of Florida requirements for generators/transfer switches.

New Business: A motion was made to suspend the approval of June’s minutes until they are sent out. There was a motion to accept July’s minutes as written and it was seconded and passed.
A motion and second was made to take out an ad for the October Southern Section meeting. The motion carried.

Don Brindley reported that the Treasure Coast Division is up and running again. We wish them the best!

Don Brindley presented a letter to the President stating that the Southern Section is requesting that all Membership Chairmen be in attendance at the Southern Section meeting in October. Dwight Wilkes made a motion that the Division pay for Don’s trip. The motion was seconded and carried.

Dwight Wilkes presented an Electrical TAC report. He reported that the TAC reviewed the “pool bonding issue.” There will be a final hearing later this month in Tampa involving a joint meeting with the Electrical and Mechanical TACs. The Electrical TAC is also discussing code language for carbon monoxide detectors.

Mark Nechvatal brought up a situation involving ceiling fans and tray ceilings. It seems there are some tray ceiling that are deeper than 12 inches and of not sufficient size to keep the smoke detectors from meeting the code requirements of being at least 3 feet from the tip of a ceiling fan blade and not being more than 12 inches down from a ceiling. Much discussion followed. If this situation arises, it would be best to talk to the “AHJ” in that jurisdiction to see what should be done.

Education & Membership: Don Brindley reported that there will be an ADA class on September 18th. Please contact Don for more information.

Don Brindley also discussed changes in the Accessibility Laws as far as sign requirements and repainting each space with the blue paint when necessary.

Don also brought up under Membership that the State of Florida is now the largest Chapter in the I.A.E.I.

.
There was no 50/50 Drawing this month.
