Minutes of the August 22, 2007 Meeting


The August meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by the President of the Gulf Coast Building Officials Association of Florida. There were 67 members and guests present.

Today’s meeting was a combined IAEI and Building Officials Association of Florida meeting. Building Officials Association of Florida began the meeting by taking care of their business. They approved their Treasurers and Secretaries report. They then gave some business reports and updates. A report was given on the latest seminar that was held by the local Building Officials Association of Florida. The state president of the Building Officials Association of Florida then gave a report. The IAEI was given the floor after this report and conducted the business portion of our meeting. We approved the Treasurers report and I then gave the Secretaries report. I told everyone about the change of date for our 2008 code change seminar with Mark Ode. I have changed the date to Saturday, February 9, 2008. It will be held at the Best Western Hotel in Punta Gorda.

Allen Weiss, from SESCO Lighting was then introduced and gave a presentation on lighting and life safety. We discussed means of egress illumination. We talked about all requirements for egress lighting. We also talked about emergency lighting requirements. All the requirements discussed are based on the Florida Building Code, the Life Safety Code, and the National Electrical Code. Allen also showed us a video presentation of various products, which included, exit signs, emergency lights, etc.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.

The next meeting will be September 19, 2007
