Where in 680.26 does it require the metal bands or hoops used to secure wooden staves be bonded?? Is it me or is this wording ludicrous?? I have someone trying to convince me that a listed package spa installed outdoors does not have to have the EBG that a pool has by the verbage in 680.42, and I wanted to see what everyone thought of the wording of part (B)

Electricman,

The spa requires the bonding grid as it is outdoors and considered the same as a pool, according to NEC. But you didn't say what it is sitting on, cement?

No it is correct, the metal bands or hoops used to secure the wooden staves are the internal parts of the unit made by the manufacturer and are not required to be bonded. But the packaged spa equipment, or the self-contained spa components (motors, blowers, heaters, etc)outdoors still must comply with 680.26 and be bonded.

Mike is correct, but I think we all agree that it is another poorly worded sentence, brought to you by the illustrious CMP 17.

Nick, My point exactly. I understand the requirement of spas to comply with 680.26 but let's word it so the average electrician can understand it. 680 needs a complete re write.

I agree. It's sad when we have to read ROP's and other information to understand a code section that can be written in simple english.
