Proposed Changes to the Florida Energy Code

As you know, Governor Crist's Executive Order 127 decreed that Florida's energy code be made 15 percent more stringent than the 2007 Florida energy code by January 2009. To that end, the Florida Department of Community Affairs has utilized Rule 9B-13, the rule that put the Florida Energy Efficiency Code for Building Construction in place for years, as a vehicle to make this change. There will be a Rule Development Workshop on March 19, 2008 at the Florida Building Commission meeting.

The Energy TAC has been asked to review proposals to revise both Chapter 13 of the Florida Building Code, Building, and Chapter 11 of the Florida Building Code, Residential, to make them roughly 15 percent more stringent. Those proposals and a summary of the proposed changes are available online at the link below. Hard copies of the proposals will not be provided at the meeting.

You are encouraged to either

provide Ann Stanton or Betty Stevens with comments (see their email addresses below) on the proposals or
come to the meeting on March 17 to discuss the issues and provide comments
The comments will go to the Commission during the Rule Development Workshop.

The Energy TAC meeting will be held on March 17, 2008, at 3 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 375 Spectrum Boulevard in Tampa, Florida. You may reach the hotel at 813-977-7066. The agenda is available online at the following link.
