Regular Meeting: (July 16, 2008)

The July meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by the President Jim Anderson at 12:30 PM. There were 24 members and guests present.
Treasurer Mike Looney was not present so no treasurer’s report was provided.
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as written.
Secretary Bryan Holland reported on the status the Division’s new CEU / Membership Drive program implemented last month. A discussion followed concerning the recent events at the Florida Building Commission regarding the adoption of the 2008 NEC and a copy of a resolution supporting the adoption of the 2008 NEC by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals was read to the attendees.
Under Committee Reports:
Bill Pancake provided an update on matters concerning CMP-5 and provided a legislated update. Bill described some issues with HB697 and the use of Private Providers for plans review and/or inspections. A lengthy discussion followed.
Bennett Rosenberger gave an update on the ECF and announced a meeting on July 29th with a presentation from the president of the ECF.
Under New Business:
A discussion was opened on the matter of next month’s CEU course. It was agreed that a 1-hr Business, 1-hr Safety, and 1-hr Worker’s Compensation course would be presented at the August Meeting. Secretary solicited for someone to assist with given the presentation due to its length and content matter. Past President Gregg Brown volunteered to help. It was noted that non-members would be charged a fee for this course in accordance with the new CEU and Membership Drive.
Following all business and code discussion, Bryan Holland gave a 1-HR presentation on Chapter 3 – Wiring Methods and Materials. All members in attendance received the CEU free of charge.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 PM. The next meeting will be August 20th, 2008.
