Jimmy Douglas called the meeting to order on August 6, 2008 at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Palatka at 12:00 PM. John Griffin led us in Prayer & the Pledge.

Present at the meeting were:
Dallas Stratton, Jimmy Douglas, Robert Marvel, Richard Davis, Phil Dunnington, Dwight Wilkes, Charles Grebe, Wes Colley, Charles Crain, Charlie Mini, Susan Knopf, Joe McGowen, Don Brindley, Donald Schlueter, Mark Nechvatal, Tom McDonald, Andrew Schirmacher, John Griffin, Edwin Garcia, and Alan L Waters

A motion was made to accept last month’s minutes as written, it was seconded. The motion carried.

Treasury Report:
Dallas Stratton reported that all bills are paid and we are solvent. A motion was made to approve the Treasurer’s report and pay all bills. A second was made. The motion carried.

Old Business:
Don Brindley installed the new officers, they are as follows:

President- Robert Marvel
Vice President- Richard Davis
Secretary- Alan L Waters
Treasurer- Dallas Stratton
Education and Membership- Gordon “Don” Brindley

Dwight Wilkes provided a report on the Electrical TAC Committee. A vote for approving the 2008 NEC was denied. The committee members that are voting against the implementation are the non-inspector members i.e. contractors etc. The biggest complaint is the additional cost that will come in the residential area with the new arc fault codes and tamper proof receptacles. You can find contact information at the Florida Building Commission website, your voice is needed.
John Griffin asked about adopting the new code without the changes and then addressing these individually, Dwight Wilkes answered that this would be a legislative decision and a bill would need to be put in effect to change the current laws governing the adoption of the NEC.

Richard Davis addressed a current issue with a particular metercan from Milbank; these have been recalled due to the grounding of the “B” phase leg.

New Business:
Dallas Stratton reported that he attended Larry Furman’s funeral services and that it was put together nicely.

Education & Membership:
Tom McDonald with APT (Advanced Protection Technologies, Inc.) spoke to the group on TVSS/SPD’s. On the effective UL1449 changes and how this is also affected by the changes of the 2008 NEC in Article 285. This sparked a new conversation on the need to readily accept the newest edition of the NEC in a timely manner.

Tentatively it is planned to have a spokesperson from Generac Generators at the September meeting.

Currently we are showing 136 members in good standing.
Letters have been sent out to the 47 members that have not renewed.
