Regular Meeting: (October 15, 2008)

The October meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by the President Jim Anderson at 12:30 PM. There were 31 members and guests present.
Treasurer Mike Looney gave the Treasury Report which was approved as written.
The minutes of the September meeting were approved as written
Secretary Bryan Holland gave an update of event currently underway such as the Florida Building Commission Meeting, The Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board, and the IAEI Southern Section Meeting. Following a brief discussion, nominations were open for the 2009 2nd VP officer. Motions were made from the floor to nominate senior associate member Jim Kenna and inspector member Robert Romano. Voting will take place at the November Meeting.
The special guest speaker was announced for next months meeting with
Building Officials Association of Florida. Nick Sasso of the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board will be present to discuss matters of the board and the electrical industry in general.
Under Committee Reports:
Bill Pancake informed us that he will be attending the NFPA Code Making Panel Meeting in January the week following our annual BOD meeting.
ECF representative Wes Colley was present to give an update on Electrical Council of Florida matters occurring around the state and offer assistance with CEU requirements.
Jim Kenna confirmed the guest speaker for the December meeting will be Sesco Lighting with a presentation on Energy Efficiency and Lighting.
Under New Business:
David Engelhart asked for the group to give an interpretation on Section 514.11 of the NEC, specifically if the Grounded (Neutral) Conductor of an E-Stop circuit needed to be disconnected along with the ungrounded conductors. A brief discussion followed. Bryan Holland brought in a few underground splice connections improperly used and installed for street lighting. A brief discussion followed.
Following all business and code discussion, Special Guest, Paul Chimene of FPL gave a presentation on PV interactive installations and net metering rules and regulations. Paul provided 4 handouts and went over Federal, State, and local rebates, incentives and programs currently underway in Florida.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 PM. The next meeting will be November 19th, 2008.
