24 Suncoast Division Members and Guest
1. President Paul Cameron commenced The Annual Meeting for the Suncoast Division, for 2008. At 1:27 PM the gavel wrapped and the Pledge to the Flag followed. There were 24 members present including Al Pereira, a guest from the City of Tampa. Al was welcomed.
2. The minutes for the November meeting were reviewed and minor corrections noted. A motion made by Gary Snodgrass to accept and the minutes with corrections was made and a seconded by Dan Kimbrell. All were in favor
3. Secretary Christlieb made his report. Initiating comment for a letter drafted to the Florida Chapter Board of Directors, to be presented at the January Board of Directors meeting. A correction to the letter for typographical errors was noted and will be corrected. Discussion on the letter took place and all present understood its general meaning. The Secretary reiterated the discussion from the November meeting.
A motion was made by Nelson Montgomery and a second voiced to accept the letter as written with corrections. All were in favor.
Secretary Christlieb brought forward to the Division’s attention expenses incurred by Gene Swisher. The copy expenses were related to the October TAC committee meeting that took place in Tampa.
Secretary Chrsitlieb advised the membership of the expenses for approval. A motion was made by Nelson Montgomery and seconded by Gary Snodgrass to reimburse Gene Swisher for his expenses.
One against vote was voiced as against this motion.
Secretary deleted attention to President Cameron and the Nominating Committee. Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Nelson Montgomery, read aloud the current officers and members for nomination for the Third Vice President and the Treasurer Officer positions. The Division was asked if there were any additional nominations from the floor. Dan Kimbrell, Neal Burdick and Tom Pia were nominated for the Third Vice President position. After the membership vote, Dan Kimbrell was nominated to the Third Vice President officer position. The Treasurer position nominee is Rob Sly. The Division voted in favor.

4. The Education Committee report was presented by Gary Snodgrass. He is currently working on a schedule with John Minick. Seminar is to be scheduled for March, after the super bowl .Final location and times are still pending.
John Sheesley presented the Membership committee report. Current 136 active members. 23 Members are delinquent.
Discussion on Honorary Membership for Ken Andrews. Honorary Membership is a nomination thru the Board.
Treasurer report. Nelson Montgomery suggested looking into the new tax forms
Janelle’s Law Committee, Robert Barbee had nothing to report.
Gene Swisher discussed the CO 2 TAC Committee meeting that ran simultaneously as the electrical TAC committee meeting. . This meeting was on 12/9/2008. There were concerns why the two meetings ran concurrently.
A motion was made by Nelson Montgomery and second made by Paul Northrup to accept the committees’ reports. All were in favor.
5. OLD BUSINESS: Nelson presented an article concerning a fire caused by an extension cord, a fire fighters injury and the death of a dog. The article is on file with the Secretary. Discussion ensued concerning safety and arc fault circuit breakers.
6. NEW BUSINESS: Gene Swisher commented on Neal Burdick’s presentation at the Tuesday TAC committee meeting. Neal made a very informative presentation. He spent a lot of his personal time and the presentation was spectacular. Gene had asked the Chairman if he and Neal could make the presentation. . Upon hearing this request, an immediate motion was made to see the presentation and Tarry Baker made an immediate second. . A 20 minute presentation was made. Noted at the TAC committee meeting, the members had Analysis books and CODE books available. At that TAC committee, procedure and meeting days were discussed. A possible adoption date of July 1, 2009, with an adoption in its entirety with no deletions.
Gene noted discussion concerning pools and Article 680-23(D) requiring all pool pumps to be GFCI protected. Gene conveyed how the meeting progressed and discussions. Noted was John Minick was present at this TAC committee meeting. Gene also noted that the public has not been heard for comment.
Noted with the Suncoast Division was discussion about a Florida Statute in Chapter 489 that conveys in words the adoption of the current National Electrical Code.
Reference to the IAEI bi – monthly magazine indicates that 30.8% of all states are on the 2008 National Electrical Code. Reference Page 28 of the October Issue 2008, Article “How Safe Are We?”
Gene brought forth additional discussion and that he would attend the next meeting. Gene has been a visible person at the TAC Committee meetings. Tom Towner, with JN Electric made a comment about Gene’s time. There is an upcoming meeting in Melbourne and Tom suggested support of Gene for his efforts. Tom made a first motion to support Gene Swisher by reimbursing Gene Swisher for his expenses incurred for attending the TAC committee meetings via the Suncoast Division. Second was voiced by Herbert Kimbrell. A majority vote for the motion carried over 1 no vote against this motion.
Other discussion concerning adoption and Florida Senate bills that can make adoption of the NEC much easier. Discussion on upcoming reviews of the 2008 NEC.
Discussion on the TAC committee procedure and review also took place. Further discussion on adoption procedures took place.

7. The Florida Chapter Board of Directors meeting is January 10th at 9:00 AM in Altamonte Springs
Robert Christlieb, Neal Burdick, Paul Cameron, John Sheesley will be attending the Board of Directors meeting.
8. At 2:18 PM a motion to adjourn was made by John Sheesley and a second followed and voiced with all in favor. This concluded the Suncoast Division Annual Meeting.
All members were wished a safe, happy holiday and prosperous New Year.
