Regular Meeting: (February 18, 2009)

The February meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by the President Bud Keefer. There were 34 members and guests present.

The meeting opened with a presentation by Justin Sobol of FPL Project Development. Justin gave a power-point presentation on the several power projects taking place around the state and nation. One project in particular is the DeSoto County Solar Array Field which will power nearly 9,000 homes once completed. Other projects include converting all vehicles and bucket trucks to hybrid and bio-diesel engines. After the presentation, a question and answer session occurred amongst the members and guests.

Following the Presentation, Treasurer Mike Looney gave the Treasury Report which was approved as written. The minutes of the January meeting were approved as written. Secretary Bryan Holland followed with a brief report of happenings and events taking place in the IAEI.

Under Committee Reports:

Bill Pancake gave an update on CMP 5 and a NEC - ROP update. Jim Kenna confirmed the March Meeting would consist of a 1-hr CEU course provided to the membership.

Wes Colley of the ECF gave a meeting announcement and an update on ECF events. Bennett Rosenberger announced a meeting planned for April in Fort Myers.

Under Old Business:

The topic of required Journeyman licensed workers per Senate Bill 256 and Charlotte County was again brought up. Vince LaPorta of Charlotte County announced that current and past J-man with the County would be grandfathered in the event the Commissioners agree to mover forward with the J-man enforcement ordinance.

Under New Business:

Secretary Bryan Holland updated the group on the 2008 adoption process. Jim Anderson advised the group about a change to the pool code requiring final inspections before the pool is filled with water. The discussion was tabled until after the Building Officials Association of Florida meeting.

Meeting was adjoined at 2:00 PM. Our next meeting will be March 18, 2009.
