Regular Meeting: (May 20, 2009)

The May meeting of the Gulf Coast Division was called to order by the President Bud Keefer. Following introductions and the Pledge of Allegiance, Secretary Bryan Holland gave an update on IAEI business and other industry topics. The minutes of the April Meeting were approved as written.

Under Committee Reports:

Tommy Lasprogato gave an update on the State Chapter Meeting. Gulf Coast Division member, Mark Deegan was elected as Chaplin to the Florida Board of Directors. Bennett Rosenberger updated the group on meeting information and other ECF updates. Wes Colley announced a meeting with Alan Weiss of Sesco Lighting on the topic of Energy Efficiency. Jim Kenna announced that next month’s joint meeting with the Building Officials Association of Florida would be a presentation from Ken Dean on Geo-thermal Heating and Cooling Technology.

Open Code and Questions:

1. A brief discussion centered on “limited energy contractor” licensing, permits, and inspections.
2. A brief discussion centered on Water Heater Chang-Out permitting and inspections.
3. A question was asked if a #8 AWG conductor is required to be installed from a hot tub back to a panelboard. The consensus discussion was NO.
4. A question was asked concerning attic space lighting / Section 210.70 of the NEC. The questions centered on the issue of what systems require maintenance and what is considered storage space.
5. A question was asked whether or not a disconnecting means is required where a raceway enters an attic from the roof before terminated at equipment below a the ceiling. The consensus discussion was NO.
6. A question was asked on “black box” devices and equipment being offered to the public promising power factor correction, energy savings, etc. The general consensus discussion indicated the most products are a scam.
7. NEAM 4 and 4X enclosures were shown to the membership which is in compliance with UL1741 for solar PV combiner enclosures.
8. A question was discussed as to when Smoke Alarms and or CO Alarms are required to be added to existing buildings.

Meeting was adjoined at 2:00 PM. Our next meeting will be June 24th, 2009.
